Edward Basil "Eddie" Doyle
April 15, 1918 ~ October 3, 1974


Apache- A wake service was held Friday in the chapel of the Crews Funeral Home for Edward Basil "Eddie" Doyle, 56, of Apache. Rev. Stephen Kelly, pastor of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Apache, officiated. Mass was held Saturday in the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church with Rev. Ward J. Pankratz, former pastor of the church, officiating.

Burial was in Fair View Cemetery.

Doyle was bom on a farm south of Apache April 15, 1918.

He was married to the former Clara Jewell Hewes March 23, 1940 at Walters.

He had lived in the Apache area all his life and was a farmer-rancher and a hay contractor..

He was a member of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Vail and Mrs. Ann Nunn, both of Apache, Mrs. Rose Marie McCarty of Muskogee and Mrs. Jackie Sue Igo of Fletcher; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; a brother, Jack of Elgin and three sisters, Mrs. Mable Roberson of Fletcher, Mrs. Marie Sonnenbuger of Shreveport, La., and Miss Thelma Doyle of Arlington, Texas.

Clara Jewell [Hewes] Doyle Bruce
March 4, 1921 ~ March 26, 2010


APACHE Funeral for Clara Jewell Doyle Bruce, 89, Apache, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Apache with the Rev. Michael Dye officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bud Jones.

She passed away Friday, March 26, 2010, in Lawton.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under direction of Crews Funeral Home.

She was born March 4, 1921, in Alden, to Robert Lee and Clara Jane Combs Hewes.

She graduated from Alden School in 1939.

She married Edward B. Doyle on March 23, 1940, in Walters. They had four daughters. They farmed and had a hay business and her job was to keep the books as well as help out with the farming. He passed away October 3, 1974.

She later married Billy Joe Bruce on May 23, 1980, in Apache, at Apache Reformed Church with the Rev. Andy Kamphuis officiating.

Mrs. Bruce was a member of the Farmerette Club, the Doyle Quilting Club and the Sooner Model A Club.

She enjoyed watching her kids and later grandchildren play basketball in school. She loved to spend time with her family. She also traveled all over the United States with the Model A club. She even traveled overseas. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; four daughters and their husbands: Betty and Richard Vail and Ann and Bill Nunn, all of Apache; Rose Marie and Denny Hopkins, of Norman; and Jackie and Mike Love, of Fletcher; three stepsons and their wives: Joe and Lori Bruce, Linn Creek, Mo.; Dale and Clara Bruce, Dover, Ark.; and John Bruce, of Tulsa; 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Brent Vail, Bryan and Lori Vail, Todd and Melissa Vail, Amy and Tommy Ferguson, David and Kelly Nunn, Larry and Jennie Nunn, Robert and Karen Nunn, Sean McCarty, John Igo, Jena Kilgore, Jarod Igo; 24 great-grandchildren: Jason Vail, Colby Vail, Haley Vail, Natasha Vail, Taylor Vail, Austin Vail, Abby Vail, Ty Ferguson, Allie Ferguson, David Allen Nunn, Jordan Nunn, Josie Nunn, Noah Nunn, Jacob Nunn, Nathan Nunn, Johnny Nunn, Billy Nunn, Brayden Nunn, Blayke Nunn, Jennifer Jeanis, Jessica and Jason Marshall, Megan McCarty, Gunner Igo, Paisley Igo; and five great-great grandchildren: Daylee Vail, Madisyn Vail, Vance Vail, Brent Silverhorn and Jason Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edward Doyle; six brothers: Harry Hewes, George Hewes, Gene Hewes, Ralph Hewes, John Hewes and Charlie Hewes; five sisters: Anna Truitt, Rosa Hayes, Bertha Carpenter, Ethel Britten and Sylvia Mason.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Methodist Church General Fund or Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma.
