Abijah Wilson "Badger" Black
November 14, 1938 ~ January 27, 2002


Funeral services for Alijah Wilson "Badger" Black, age 63, Cordell resident, were held this afternoon at the First Church of the Nazarene in Carnegie with Jerry Tate officiating.

Black died Sunday, January 27, 2002, at his home in Cordell. He was born on November 14, 1938 in Dill City, the son of Woodrow W. and Mary Murphy Black.

At the time of his death he was a district lineman for the Carnegie-Hobart area of AEP/Public Service Co. of Oklahoma.

He was a member of the Baptist Church, IBEW Union Local No. 1002, the Masons and Shriners.

Black worked as a lineman most of his life in electrical power line construction for contractors John T. Jones, L.E. Meyers, Perry Electric and Midland & Comstock across Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, Massachusetts, California, Arkansas and Kentucky.

He began working for PSO in 1988 and remained in that position until his illness.

In 1997 he was married to Jeannie Trent of Cordell, and they made their home there.

Burial was in the Apache Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Black, of Cordell; son, James Lynn Black of Cordell; three daughters, Carol Ann Black of Apache, Patricia Kaye Janis of Altus, Candace Mae Black of Carnegie; a stepdaughter, Laura Trent of Cordell; a stepson, Kenneth Trent of Cordell; a daughter-in-law, Verna Black of Cyril; a sister, Janet Bartel and her husband, Oliver (Slug), of Cordell; a brother, Jerry Black and his wife, Marketa, of Dill City; nine grandchildren, Dallas and Boston Codonon, Britiney and Kayse Janis, Randy and Todd Sthultz, Taylor and Sissy Black and Kira Black.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Barbara Black; a son, Randy Black; a grandson, Tanner Black; and a brother, Billy Black.

December 27, 1962 ~ January 24, 2014


James Black of Apache, Oklahoma was born December 27, 1962 at Cordell, Ok to Barbara and Abijah Wilson [Badger] Black. He passed away January 24, 2014 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK, at the age of 51.

He was an electrical worker for many years. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, camping, and riding and training horses. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as well as his mother-in-law whom he loved dearly and was always doing odd jobs for her. He also helped many people with countless projects also.

James is survived by: Wife Lisa Black of the home, 2 daughters: Taylor Black, Garber, OK and Jamie Black, Alva, OK; 2 step-daughters: Monica and Husband, Mark Rury, Fletcher, OK, Stephanie and husband, Brian Franke, Garber, OK; 1 step-son: Derick and wife, Shanae Alldredge, Cyril, OK; Grandchildren: Lane Alldredge, Kenzie and Lexi Rury, Trevor Frankie, Tanner Frankie; Sisters: Carol and husband, Gary Duckworth, Enid, OK; Candace Black and fiancé, Chris Thurman, Apache, OK; Patricia Janis, Durant, OK; Sisters in Law: Verna Black, Cyril, OK; Mother-in-Law: Mary Law.

He was preceded in death by: His parents; 1 brother, Randy; 1 son, Tanner.

Graveside services will be Thursday January 30 at 2pm at Fairview Cemetery with Dewayne Wilcox officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Crews Funeral Home.
