Elvern Edge Jr
June 14, 1945 ~ February 3, 2021


Elvern Edge, Jr, of Moore, Oklahoma passed away February 3, 2021, at the age of 75. He was born June 14, 1945, in the Lawton Indian Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma to Elvern "John" Edge Sr. and Mae Edith [Williams] Edge.

Elvern went to Fort Cobb Grade School, Junior High, and High School, and graduated in May of 1963. He attended Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee, Oklahoma in 1964-65 and received a certificate in electronics in December of 1965.

Elvern was employed at Tinker Air Force Base in December of 1965. April 6, 1966, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Military Police, and received an Honorable Discharge April 5, 1968, for services rendered to his country. Elvern then returned to Tinker Air Force Base in May of 1968 and retired on October 30, 1994. He married the love of his life, Linda Kay Wheeler on February 27, 1971. Following his retirement at Tinker, he worked at SEMCO from November 9, 1994, to March 31, 1997, and then worked at KARTA from April 1, 1997, and retired in 2018. He received a certificate as a Biblical Counselor from Vine Life Ministries in December of 2001 and was presented with The Vine Life Memorial Award on January 10, 2002. This award had been given only twice in the history of Vine Life Ministries. Elvern was a pre-marital counselor from 1992 to the present. He was an amazing man and influenced many lives.

Elvern is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Edge; 3 sons, Elvern Scott Edge, Jerod Nelson Edge & wife, Jessica, and Travis Jon Edge; 5 grandchildren, Preston Franks, Madison Franks, Nathan Edge, Ethan Edge, and Emily Edge; 2 sisters, Lavinia Kay "Emma" Pau-Kune & husband, Jerry, and Maureen "Mo" Owings & husband, Jimmy Dean.

He is preceded in death by his parents Elvern "John" Edge Sr. & Mae Edith Edge; and 2 sisters, Joyce Marie and Mary Ann; and 1 brother, Doyle Ray.

There will be a wake at 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 7th at First Caddo Baptist Church in Fort Cobb, OK. Graveside Services for Elvern will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, February 8, 2021, at the Edge Family Cemetery in Fort Cobb, OK.

FORT COBB Funeral for Doyle Ray Edge, 66 of Fort Cobb, went to his heavenly home Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Tulsa.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Christian Fellowship in Anadarko with Pastor Tom Worcester officiating.

Burial will follow at the Edge Family Cemetery in Fort Cobb under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.

An all night wake will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Caddo Frist Baptist Church in Fort Cobb.

Doyle Ray Edge was born Aug. 13, 1947, at Lawton to John "Elvern" and Mae Edith Williams Edge. He graduated from Fort Cobb High School with outstanding achievements in basketball and baseball in 1965. He is best remembered for scoring a last-second shot from half-court to score the points that would take Fort Cobb to the State Basketball playoffs. Doyle attended Okmulgee Vo-Tech School after high school, where he studied drafting until his enlistment with the U.S. Army.

He was a decorated veteran serving his country and Native American people proudly with tours in Korea and Vietnam. He received an early discharge from his second tour for his exemplary duty and service for what he liked to call "a good soldier."

Doyle's life involved sports and his ability to perform all sports in an exceptional manner. He participated in independent basketball and softball games starting as an outstanding shortstop and hitter. Later, he taught himself to become one of the best fast pitchers in softball "because we didn't have anyone to pitch." He received countless MVP and outstanding player awards during his lifetime including the Most Valuable Player Award during the National Softball Championship held in Canada. His ultimate achievement was induction into the Oklahoma Softball Hall of Fame in 2008.

Doyle was a proud member of the Caddo Nation. He served as chairman of the Caddo Nation from 1978 through 1982, and worked tirelessly to achieve programs to assist and protect his people. He was a member of the Caddo NAGPRA Repatriation Board where his compassion, knowledge and respect for the Caddo Culture were invaluable. He also served as chairman of the Caddo Cultural Club participating in many events throughout the United States to teach and promote his Caddo Culture and way of life.

Doyle received his greatest enjoyment from loving and spending time with his family, children and grandchildren. He became a mentor, coach and cheerleader spending countless hours playing all sports particularly softball with many young athletes. He was a devoted fan of Gracemont High School Basketball team games when his grandson Taylor's team advanced to the State Playoffs. He could always be counted on to be cheering for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they competed in all sports activities.

Doyle is survived by: four children and spouses: Brian and Leslie Edge, of Glenpool; Randy and Jackie Edge, of Norman; Tisha Edge-Howie, of Gracemont; and Patrick Wehunt, of California; brother and sister-in-law: Goop and Linda Edge; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Mo and Jimmy Dean, and Emma and Jerry Pau-Kune; aunt, Donna Jean Butler; grandchildren: Lance Edge, Taylor Edge, Morgan Autaubo, Megan Edge, Taysha Autaubo, Brandon Edge and Kelby Edge-Howie; great-grandchildren: Doyle Duran Edge, Bentley Edge, Denver Edge, Braelon Edge, Boomer, Sooner and Aspen.

He was preceded in death by: parents: Elvern "John" and Mae Edith Edge; sisters: Joyce and Mary Ann Edge; grandparents: Stanley Edge and Amy Johnson; uncles: Buntin Williams and Driskell Williams; and aunts: Ellen Williams and Joella Johnson.

Rites Held Thursday For Fort Cobb Baby.

FORT COBB - Funeral services for Mary Ann Edge, 7-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elvern Edge, route 1, Fort Cobb, were held last Thursday at the Fort Cobb funeral home. Rev. Gerard Nathe, minister of the Anadarko Holy Family church, officiating.

The baby died December 24 in an Anadarko hospital after a week-long illness..

She is survived by her parents, two brothers, Elvern, jr., and Doyle, and three sisters, Joyce, Maureen and Lavinia Kaye.
