Carl Gene Whitt

Graveside funeral service for Carl Gene Whitt, 75, of Cement, OK will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Cement Cemetery in Cement. Rev. Laurie Stinnett will officiate.

Carl Gene Whitt was born the son of Carl Whitt and Georgia Wissman Whitt on May 3, 1941 in Middletown, OH. He died on February 26, 2017 in Cement, OK.

Carl married his wife Mary on Christmas Eve in 1975.

He served in the United States Navy on the USS Intrepid as an aviation ordinance crewman. Serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for aviation on the VS-27.

After his military service, Carl drove a cross country 18-wheeler; worked in the oil field for many years in positions from worm to tool pusher; he was an insurance salesman for Mutual of Omaha; he started a contracting business called GWGS Roofing; and he owned a custom paint shop doing commercial painting on trailers and cars.

Carl wrote passionately on his life experiences in many poems and short stories. He wrote two books which are yet to be published. He also coached summer league boys baseball. Carl was a member of the Cement United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge and Odd Fellows Lodge.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father Georgia and Carl Whitt; brothers Gary Whitt and Blain Lee Whitt; and a sister Barbara Sonnyborn.

Carl is survived by his wife Mary Whitt of the home; grandchildren Rose and Robert Brookshire of the home; son Carl Gene Whitt, Jr.; son Terry Garmon; son Timothy Garmon; daughter Trisha Garmon; brother Tom Whitt; sister and husband Kathy and Mike Goodwin; 17 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Jennie Carr; numerous other family and friends.

Service is under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.
