James Alexander "Shorty" Powell

The funeral for James Alexander "Shorty" Powell, 62, of Cleo Springs, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Cement. The Revs. Raymond McPherson and Jim Burgraf will officiate. Burial will be in Cement Cemetery. Arrangements are by Nichols Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Fairview.

He was born Aug. 9, 1947, in Oklahoma City to Franklin and Jimmie Brackeen Powell and died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, in Cleo Springs.

He served in the Army in Vietnam.

He married Patricia Stewart March 27, 1970, in Cement. They owned and operated Powell Bail Bonds.

Surviving are his wife, Pat; two children, Brandon Powell of Aline and Chad Powell of Hastings; his mother and stepfather, Jimmie and Virgil Goucher; four brothers, Tommie Powell, John Goucher, Kenneth Goucher and Roy Goucher; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one son.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love.
