October 2014

Robert "Bob" Peck Sr

Heaven's choir extended the call for a new music director, and Bob Peck, Sr. accepted the call with the support of his loving family on Friday, October 3, 2014.

Bob was born on December 19, 1933, in Cement, OK. He married Janie Ruff on July 6, 1952, and they raised four children, Pam, Bobby, Tami and Bryan.

After graduating from Cement High School, Cement, OK, he was drafted as a pitcher for the OKC Indians, Texas League Association.

At 19 years of age, he joined the family grocery business, Peck's IGA. After selling the IGA, he opened Peck's Red Bud grocery store in Anadarko, OK, which he operated for 12 years.

He opened his first Kentucky Fried Chicken store in Anadarko in 1976 and has owned and operated 16 KFC stores since that time.

During his active years as a KFC franchisee, he was President of AKFCF [Franchisee Association] 1989-1990, and Chairman of the Contract Negotiating Committee 1989-1997.

Bob was active in civic organizations as well as his local church, where he served as a Deacon/Elder, Music Director, Sunday School Teacher and wherever he was needed.

He was known to many as the man who could feed 5,000 people in 20 minutes at various caterings across the state of Oklahoma, including 21 years at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly Men and Women's Retreats.

He loved donating his time and chicken dinners to the Annual Fall Festival at Christian Heritage Academy for 20-plus years.

He loved to play golf and follow his grandsons through high school and college golf, baseball and football. He collected golf balls, scorecards and baseballs from special events.

He loved watching his granddaughters participate in volleyball and ballet.

He and Janie were blessed to travel the world during his active years with KFC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Myrtle Peck; brother, Harry; and sister, Eilene.

Survivors include wife, Janie, of the home; children, Pam Ellis and husband Les, of El Reno; Bobby Peck, of Oklahoma City; Tami Prather and husband Scott, of Oklahoma City; and Bryan and wife Brenda Peck, of Edmond; brother, Jim and Sue Peck, of Odessa, TX; sister-in-law, Allene Peck, of Midwest City; nephew, Steve Peck, of Anadarko; niece, Brenda Nixon, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Tracy and Tristan Ellis, of Norman; Ryan and Andrea Ellis, of Oklahoma City; Joshua and Vero Cunningham, of Montreal, Canada; Luke Cunningham, of San Antonio; Kara Prather, of Oklahoma City; Taylor Prather, of Norman; Emma, Davis, and Sophie Peck, of Edmond; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Tate, and Tanner Ellis, of Norman; Jasper, Jack, and Lenox Cunningham, of Montreal, Canada; and a host of other family and friends, who will miss him dearly.

We will never know, this side of Heaven, the numerous lives he touched because of his giving spirit -- whether through encouraging words, employment opportunities or anonymous gifts.

The family would like to thank Bob's caregivers, Vickie, Kim, Kristel, Jacob, and Liz, as well as Mercy Hospice team. You walked this journey with us and Dad loved each of you.

In lieu of flowers, Bob requested that memorial gifts be made to Christian Heritage Academy Endowment, 4400 SE 27th St, Del City, OK 73115.

Viewing will be held at Vondel Smith North on Tuesday, October 7, 4-8 p.m. Burial service will be held Wednesday, October 8 at 2 p.m. at the cemetery in Cement, OK. Life celebration for Bob will be held on Thursday, October 9 at 2 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, 14317 N. Council, OKC.
