Arlene Almira "Gongie" [McCloskey] Keeton

Funeral service for Arlene Keeton, age 86, of Cyril, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2003, in the Cyril First Baptist Church. Brother Donald Wright will officiate, and Rev. Charles Echols will assist.

Arlene Almira McCloskey-Keeton was born August 27, 1916, in Rocky Ford Community to Daniel McCloskey and Hester McCloskey. She died on August 13, 2003, at her home in Cyril.

Arlene graduated from Cyril Schools in 1934, serving as valedictorian of her graduating class. She married Audry Lee Keeton on October 18, 1936, in Chickasha. When they moved to Cyril, they owned several local businesses including a cafe, flower shop, and an antique shop. Arlene also worked as a dietitian at Cyril Hospital until it closed in the last 1960s; then as a clerk at Cyril Drug Store for several years.

>Arlene was saved and baptized as a child and later became a member of the First Baptist Church, Cyril, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and then, as a member of the Dorcas Sunday school class.

She was also known as "Gongie" to grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many special friends. She loved antiques, decorating, sewing, making quilts, needlepoint, canning, playing the piano, and watching sports on T. V. Her favorite pastime was celebrating life with her family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sons, Kenneth and Billy Keeton, and her husband, Lee Keeton.

Survivors include: daughter: Wilma Lee Burgess and her husband, Clifford of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughter: Jo Scott and her husband, Clayton of Cyril; grandchildren: Reggie and Teri-Lee Burgess-Osborne of Aubrey, Texas, Jerry "Smokey" and Tammy Burgess of North Richland, Texas, Paul and Susan Scott of Duncan, Shancy and Elizabeth Arlene Scott-Brown of Cyril, Shawn and Tracey Beach of Oklahoma City; great grandchildren: Braden, Brooklyn and Britton Scott, Blair Elizabeth Brown, Austin and Brayden Burgess, Danette and Shauna Beach, Paige and Houston Burgess; sister: Mrs. Frank Bryson of Anadarko; her loving friend and caregiver, Tinsey Tieyah.

Interment will be in the Cement Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay's Cyril Funeral Home.
