Funeral services will be held for Alfred David Hurley, 65, of Chickasha at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, in the First Church of the Nazarene, Chickasha, with Keith Morgan officiating and Kent Hibbard assisting.

Alfred David Hurley was born on Oct. 31, 1946, in Caddo County to Alfred J. and Bertha (Orum) Hurley. He died on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at home in Chickasha.

David grew up in California, in the Fresno area, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School. After high school, he attended Fresno City College (now Fresno State). In November of 1965, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring in December of 1985.

On April 23, 1968, he married the love of his life and wife of nearly 44 years, Sherry Lynn Pool, in Clovis, Calif. To that union his son Michael and daughter Cathleen were born.

After David's retirement from the military, he worked at the Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico where he was instrumental in the development of various technologies that, among other things, changed the way cancer is treated. In 1989, the family relocated to the Chickasha area where David obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from USAO. He then enrolled in various distance learning classes in theology from Oklahoma Baptist University and other institutions and became a reverend around 2002. Since that time he has preached at the Resurrection House and served as the Associate Pastor at the First Church of the Nazarene.

David genuinely loved the Bible and spent hours each day studying God's Word. He also enjoyed spending time on his computer, word puzzles, and especially time spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Wayne ‘Petee' Hurley and his grandparents, Orby & Ola Mae Hurley and Clim & Mamie Orum.

Survivors include: wife Sherry Hurley of the home; son, Michael Hurley of Richmond, Ken.; daughter and son-in-law, Cathleen and Daniel Garcia and their children, Daniel Jr., Linda and Leon, all of Abilene, Texas; parents, Alfred and Bertha Hurley of Chickasha; two brothers, Lloyd Hurley of Chickasha and Donald Hurley and wife Diane of Chickasha; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Sande Barron of Ardmore; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Cement Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
