Wilma Lanora [Hancock] Wood
May 16, 1921 ~ November 22, 2017


Wilma Wood, a long-time resident of Carnegie, OK, entered the gates of heaven Wednesday the 22nd of November at the age of 96 at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, OK. She was born on May 16, 1921 in Ft. Cobb, OK to George and Mae [Bilyeu] Hancock.

On July 24, 1937, Wilma married the love of her life, Ross W. Wood, Sr in Carnegie, OK. They were married 46 years and were blessed with 7 children, Dewayne, Ross, Jr., Jimmy, Darlene, Tom, Debbie and Victor.

The early years for Ross and Wilma were hard, but they always provided a loving home and everything their family needed all the while instilling a great faith in God in their children.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Carnegie where she was a long time Sunday School teacher and active in the WMU.

Wilma was known for her hard work and her love for her family. For years she worked alongside her children in the cotton fields. The only other job she ever had in the work place was as a cook for Carnegie Public Schools where Wilma retired after 22 years. Wilma is remembered for her amazing, delicious food and was an incredible seamstress.

Highlights of her retired years would be spending time with her grandkids on the farm, going to the creek and fixing hobo dinners on that old sand rock hill.

Wilma was proceeded in death by her mother and father, George and Mae, her husband Ross, and her sons Ross Jr., and Jimmy Ray, 10 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by 1 brother, Randall Hancock of Yukon, OK, son Dewayne Wood and wife Wilda of Calumet, OK, daughter Darlene Justice and husband Ron of Chickasha, OK, son Tom Wood and wife Peggy of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, daughter Debbie Ridgeway and husband Jimmy of Carnegie, OK and son Victor Wood and wife Sherri of Choctaw, OK. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Ross and Wilma have left a Godly legacy for their family and their friends that will last for many generation. Wilma was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Services for Sgt Ross W. Wood, 26, Oklahoma City, formerly of Carnegie, who died Wednesday in Action in Vietnam, are pending with Pitcher Funeral Home in Carnegie.

Wood was born in Foster and had lived in Oklahoma City for a short time

He attended Central State College and Cameron Junior College.

He enlisted in the Army in 1965 and received his basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carnegie.

Survivors include his parents, Mr and Mrs Ross W. Wood, Carnegie: two sons, Rusty Wayne and Travis Lynn, both of Oklahoma City: four brothers, Dewayne, Oklahoma City; Jimmy, Lamont; and Tommy and Victor, both of Carnegie, and two sisters, Deborah Wood, Carnegie, and Mrs Darlene Justice, Stillwater

Jimmy Ray Wood
July 7, 1944 ~ March 27, 2006


Funeral service for Jimmy Ray Wood, 61, of Green Forest, Arkansas were held Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Carnegie with Rev. Billy McCall officiating; assisted by Rev. Kenneth Romines and Dr. Arthur Blount.

Jimmy was born July 7, 1944 in Carnegie to Ross William and Wilma [Hancock] Wood and died Monday, March 27, 2006 at the Mercy St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

He loved to sing and play the piano. At the time of his death Jimmy was serving as Music and Youth Minister at Grandview Baptist Church in Berryville, Arkansas. He previously had served at the Alfalfa Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Lamont, Crown Heights Baptist Church in Woodward, First Baptist Church of Blackwell and First Baptist Church in Green Forest, Arkansas. He had held several revivals and had gone on mission trips.

He also had taught school for 10 years.

His enjoyment was raising dogs and riding horses. He invested his life in people.

He is survived by his mother, Wilma Wood of Carnegie; three brothers, DeWayne Wood and wife Wilda of Calumet, Tom Wood and wife Peggy of Omaha, Arkansas and Victor Wood and wife Sherri of Carnegie; two sisters, Darlene Justice and husband Ron of Chickasha and Debbie Ridgeway and husband Jim of Carnegie; 11 nephews and five nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father Ross William Wood and one brother, Ross William Wood Jr.

Burial was in the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home in Carnegie.
