© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, April 14, 1926 Applewhite H. [McKee] Swearingen Mrs. A.H. Swearingen died at the home of her son, V.B. Swearingen in the west part of town at seven o'clock last Saturday morning from an attack of heart trouble. Mrs. Swearingen had been in ill health for a number of months. Funeral services were held at Pitcher's Funeral Home at 2:30 Monday afternoon by Rev. R.K. McGregor, pastor of the Baptist church and interment was made in the Carnegie cemetery under the direction of Pitcher & Pitcher. Applewhite H. McKee was born Nov. 21, 1861, in Alabama and died at Carnegie, Okla. April 10, 1926 aged 64 years, 4 months and 20 days. About twenty years of her life was spent in Montague county, Texas near Nocona and the last six years she has lived near Tipton before coming to Carnegie last November. She was married to A.W. Swearingen, March 14, 1880 and to this union twelve children were born, nine of whom are living were present at the time of the funeral. They are: H. G. Swearingen, Hastings; Mrs. Turner Druce, Oklahoma City; V. B. Swearingen, Carnegie; M .C. Swearingen, Nocona, Texas; G. W. Swearingen, Marietta; Ned Swearingen, Tipton; Mrs. Callie Williamson, Nocona, Texas, and Mrs. W. T. Gray of Carnegie. She also had twenty-five grandchildren and many other relatives. Mrs. Swearingen has been a Christian all her life and the earliest memories of the children were her teachings from the Bible. |
