© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, May 4, 1927 Jose "Little Jo" Sunega Little Mexican Jo Shoots Himself When Friends Flee From His Knife Little Jo, him quit. No more work for Indian. No more make music with guitar. No more drink mescal. No more be sick in the head and chase friends with knife. He's dead. Jose Sunega, about 50 years of age, committed suicide by shooting himself in the right side early Saturday morning. The entire charge from a No. 410 shot gun took effect in the region of the liver and he lived only about an hour. He was buried in the potter's field in the Carnegie cemetery Saturday afternoon. Little Jo was a familiar character on the streets of Carnegie. He is said to have lived among the Kiowas for the past 33 years, and nothing is known of his family. Little Jo came to the home of his friend. Martain Ramirez, Wednesday of last week and asked permission to stay a few days, saying he was sick. He was welcomed, according to Ramirez, but on surrection all his own and soon had possession of the field, the Ramirez family fleeing before Little Jo and his eight inch knife. He then took his little gun and walked a few steps to the Rock Island tracks where he placed the muzzle of the gun against his right side and leaned over to push the trigger. |
