© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, June 9, 1948 Ellen Susan [Foster] Smith Week's Illness Fatal To Mrs. Jerry Smith; Final Rites Monday Final rites for Mrs. Jerry Smith, pioneer resident of this community were at 3 p.m. Monday in the Methodist church following her death in Oklahoma City Sunday. She had gone Sunday, May 30, to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dave Jones, where she was overcome Monday with a severe stroke from which she never revived. She was 72 years old. Rev. Chas. P.D. Mann, pastor, conducted the service and burial was in the Carnegie cemetery under direction of the Pitchers. Ellen Susan Foster was born March 29, 1876, in Ash county, North Carolina. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Foster who formerly lived north of Carnegie. She was married to Jerry P. Smith in Tennessee. They came to Oklahoma in 1903 and located near Mountain View. Later they lived on a farm two miles north and a half west of Carnegie before moving into town where she has since made her home. He husband and four sons preceded her in death. Survivors are her three sons, Johnson and Frank Smith of Carnegie and John Sander Smith, Oklahoma City, and two daughters, Mrs. Dave Jones, Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Tom Acord, Montoya, New Mexico. Also three sisters, Mrs. Tina Johnson, Greendale, Va.; Mrs. Sarah Dye, Beaver City, Okla., and Mrs. Alice Harris, Carnegie, and a half-brother, Walter Foster, Las Vegas, Nevada, and 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was converted and joined the Methodist church at the age of 14 and later moved her membership to Carnegie where she was a member at the time of her death. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, November 4, 1963 Frank William Smith Funeral Services For Frank Smith Are Held Monday Funeral; services for Frank Smith, a Carnegie pioneer, were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the First Christian church. Rev. Neal Lovell, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery. Smith died Saturday afternoon at the Carnegie hospital after a long illness. Frank William Smith was born February 24, 1900 to Jerry and Ellen Foster Smith at Roan Mountain, Tenn. He was one of a family of nine children. In 1902 Frank moved with his parents to Oklahoma and settled in the Carnegie area. After growing to manhood, he became a butcher for farmers and for the local meat market. He was married to Ethel Neher in 1923 at Oklahoma City. He retired in 1950 because of ill health. He had been a member of the Christian church since 1947. He is survived by his wife of the home; one son, Frank Smith, jr., New Orlean, La.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Faye Gillaspy of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Sue Cook, San Pedro, Calif.; a step-son, Ralph Riley, Sayre; two brothers, Johnson Smith, Carnegie, and John Sanders Smith, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mrs. Dave Jones, Oklahoma City and Mrs. Julia Acord, San Jon, N.M.; nine grandchildren; an aunt, Mrs. Alice Harris, Carnegie, and other relatives. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, May 21, 1941 Robert Taylor Smith Services Sunday For Robt. Smith Final rites were held at three o'clock Sunday afternoon for Robert Smith, 37, who died early Saturday morning at his home on West Second street. He became seriously ill 15 months ago and never fully recovered his health. Rev. T.T. Brown, pastor of the First Christian church, conducted the funeral services at the First Baptist church. He was assisted by Rev. O.W. Eudaley, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery under direction of the Pitcher Funeral home. Robert Taylor Smith was born near Carnegie June 12, 1903. He grew to manhood and lived here all his life. He was united in marriage to Floy Leola Leisure of Beaver City December 30, 1930. To them three sons were born, Robert jr. and Jerry DeWayne and DeLois who passed away in infancy. Robert was converted in his home in December, 1940. Survivors include his wife and two sons, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smith; three brothers, Johnson and Frank of this place, and John Sanders of Fort Sill, and two sisters, Mrs. Dave Jones, Oklahoma City and Mrs. Tom Acord, San Jon, New Mexico. All were present for the services Sunday. |
