© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, December 12, 1962 Jesse Levi Smith Funeral services for Jesse Levi Smith were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist church. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiated. Burial was in the American Legion plot at the Carnegie cemetery. The American Legion Post presented the burial rites. Smith died Monday, December 10, in the Curd Nursing Home. He was born December 30, 1889, in Indian Territory, near Boggy Depot. He lived at Pauls Valley and at Lindsay until 1922 when he moved to Carnegie. He had been a resident here since. He worked for Bill Swanda for over 30 years. He served in World War I, enlisting from Maysville, Okla., on September 19, 1917. He was assigned to Battery C, 343 Field Artillery, 90th Division, and served with the AEF in France. He was discharged on June 18, 1919. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He is survived by two brothers, William Robert "Bob" Smith, Carnegie, and Melvin Oscar Smith of Orange Cove, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Palmer of Alex, Okla., and Mrs. Sarah Nelson and other relatives. |
