G.P. Fowler Dies After Long Illness; Rites Wednesday

Services for G.P. Fowler were at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Methodist church with Rev. Roy C. Rowlan, pastor, preaching the sermon. Arrangements were in charge of the Pitcher Funeral Home and burial was in the Carnegie cemetery.

Mr. Fowler died at 7:30 a.m. Monday in his home, 204 South Carnegie, after a long illness. In 1931 he underwent an operation for a malignant throat condition. He became ill last Thanksgiving and two week ago his condition became serious.

Gilford Poe Fowler was born Nov. 22, 1881 at Western Grove, Ark. He first came to Carnegie in 1902 and worked at Mountain View. After about 18 months her he returned to Arkansas where he was married to Mary Ann Salmon Aug. 14, 1904, at Western Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Fowler moved to Carnegie in 1906. He operated a wagon yard here two or three years before moving to a farm in the Neola community south of Carnegie. In 1914 the family moved to a farm west of Alfalfa. In 1919 they moved to Carnegie and have made their home here since. For years Fowler operated a service station at 14 South Carnegie and later was in the service station business just across the street from his home.

He was converted in 1928 and joined the Methodist church. He was past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Fowler of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Bess Leonard, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Faye Cowan, Carnegie, and Mrs. Nadine Graham, Kansas City; two sons, Glenn Fowler, Carnegie, and Joe Fowler, Kansas City, and two sisters, Mrs. H.R. Magness, Western Grove, and Mrs. J.T. Salmon, Harrison, Ark. Also surviving are seven grandchildren.

All of the children were here for the services.
