John A. Foster Dies Following Stroke; Services Thursday

Funeral services for John Foster will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Pitcher Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Simmons, pastor of the Methodist church, preaching the funeral sermon. Burial will be in the Carnegie cemetery.

Foster died at 11 p.m. Tuesday night following a paralytic stroke Saturday. He has not had the use of his lower limbs for a number of years. Formerly he used crutches, but in recent years he has been confined to his wheel chair.

John Avery Foster was born in Grason County, Va., March 22, 1880. He was married to Miss Anna Mofield in Grason county in 1900.

Foster came to Oklahoma in 1904 and married to Miss Edna Hawkins, who died in 1936. He lived on a farm northwest of Carnegie for a number of years and about 15 years ago moved to Carnegie and engaged in the taxi business.

Survivors include one son, Henry Foster, Columbus, N.M. and four sisters, Mrs. Jerry Smith and Mrs. Alice Harris of this place; Mrs. Sarah Dye, Edmond, and Mrs. Timey Johnson, Greendale, Va.

Henry came here from New Mexico when his father was stricken and was here at the time of his death.

Mrs. John Foster Dies In Hospital

Mrs. John Foster died early Wednesday at the University hospital, Oklahoma City, where she has been for the past seven weeks taking treatment. She has been in poor health for two years, and spent thirteen weeks in the hospital a year ago. Rev. W.A.R. Lovell will preach the funeral Thursday at 3 o'clock at the Pitcher funeral home and burial will be made in the Carnegie cemetery.

Edna Hawkins was born at Marion, Ind., Sept 17, 1885, died Feb. 7, 1934, aged 48 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Her parents moved from Indiana to Missouri where she grew to womanhood, and as a young woman came to Oklahoma. She was married to John Foster July 1, 1908. They have made their home in and near Carnegie since. She was a kind and loving companion, and gladdened many hearts by her kind deeds and smiles. She is survived by her husband, her father who lives at Bethany, Mo., a stepson, Henry Foster, Las Vegas, N.M., two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Hogan, Kansas City, and Mrs. Eva Watson, Greenfield, Okla. and one brother, Harry Hawkins, Bethany, Mo.

Mrs. Hogan, Mrs. Watson and Mr. Hawkins are expected here Thursday to attend the funeral.
