Graveside Rites Are Held Here For Clovis Byrd

Funeral services for Clovis Byrd, Oklahoma City, son-in-law of Mrs. A.F. Loyd, and brother-in-law of J.C. Penny Loyd, Mrs. Ernest Bigbie and Mrs. V.I. Copus, all of Carnegie, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, at the Vondell L. Smith Mortuary in Oklahoma City. Interment was in the Carnegie cemetery.

Byrd suffered an apparent heart attack Saturday evening, October 8, at his home at 1115 Southwest 34 and died a short time later.

Byrd, 54, was a native of Lexington, Okla., but had spent most of his life in Oklahoma City. A veteran of World War II, he had been employed 24 years as a cross-country bus driver for the Oklahoma Transportation company. Ill health had cause his retirement several months ago.

He was married July 6, 1935, at Seminole, Okla., to the former Geraldine Loyd of Carnegie. He was a member of the South Memorial Baptist church in Oklahoma City. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Sharon, an employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone company and a son, Lynn, a student at Central State college, Edmond. All reside at the home in Oklahoma City. He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Edna Ellison of Oklahoma City and a brother, Richard Byrd of Granada Hills, California.

Pallbearers for the graveside rites here were Joe Hegner, Lloyd and Clarence Tooman, all of Carnegie, and Kenneth Bull, Ted Brumley and Roy Vinyard, all of Oklahoma City.
