1896 ~ 1924

Mrs. Claude Brown Dies Suddenly In Hospital

Mrs. Claude Brown of Duke, formerly of this place, died in an Altus hospital Sunday evening, following the birth of a daughter early Sunday. Her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Pitcher, were at the bedside. She had been resting well Sunday afternoon and her change for the worse was sudden and unexpected. The body was shipped to Carnegie for interment in the Carnegie cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted at the chapel Tuesday at 2 o'clock, Rev. W.A.R. Lovell officiating and Rev. Geo. C. Hutto assisting in the service. The local Eastern Star chapter of which Mrs. Brown was a member conducted the chapter funeral ceremony at the cemetery.

Hazel Mina Pitcher was born at Plainfield, Iowa, May 29, 1896, died at the city hospital, Altus, Okla., November 2, 1924, age 28 years, 5 months and 3 days. She came with her parents to Carnegie seventeen years ago.

She was married to Claude Brown January 22, 1915, at Carnegie. To this union two daughters were born, both of whom survive--Jeraldine, 8 years old, and an infant babe. Besides the husband and daughters she is survived by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Pitcher; a sister, Mrs. W.C. Campbell; and a brother, C.A. Pitcher.

Mrs. Brown professed religion early in life and became a member of the Methodist church. She was active in church work here and at Duke where the family has lived for the past two years and where Mr. Brown is cashier of the Duke bank. Several families from Duke in the southwest part of the state made the trip to Carnegie to attend the funeral, friends in their new home joining in sorrow with friends here who have known Claude and Hazel since childhood.
