Lucile [Holcomb] Bridwell
1915 ~ 2017

Lucile Bridwell, 102, died Friday, June 9, 2017 at her home in Carnegie, Oklahoma. She was born January 21, 1915 on a farm in the Broxton community to Benjamin and Ollie Rich Holcomb.

Lucile attended school her first eight years of school at the Crescent School near Taloga, Oklahoma. She moved back to Broxton and graduated from school there in 1932. She then attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha working toward receiving a teaching certificate. Lucile moved to Carnegie in 1934 to teach all eight grades at the Cedar Dale School east of Carnegie.

Lucile married Denton Bridwell in June of 1936 and as was the custom at the time, she gave up her teaching job. After World War II, the ban on teachers being married was lifted and she was asked again to teach at Cedar Dale.

As her family began to grow, she left teaching and devoted herself to raising her three boys: Malcolm, Robert, and John.

Lucile was a very active member of the Carnegie First Baptist Church. She held most of the positions that her church allowed women to occupy. She was very involved in the local school district. Later she also worked eleven years for the Oklahoma Department of Public Welfare. She was a devoted volunteer at the Nutrition Center in Carnegie until her health restricted her activities. Lucile loved doing crossword puzzles, doing two a day for a long time. She enjoyed playing Skip Bo and Solitaire. In her 80's, Lucile began using a computer and e-mail. She never stopped learning. She was an avid OU fan, a Thunder fan, and was a Tiger Woods fan. Lucile also visited her father in the nursing home nearly everyday for six years.

Lucile is survived by two sons: Robert Leslie Bridwell and wife Karen of Corpus Christi, Texas. John Benjamin Bridwell and wife Elaine of Ardmore. Grandchildren: Martha Williams and husband Joey, Sally Callahan and husband Larry, Sarah Bridwell, and Michael Bridwell. Step-Grandchildren-Tonya Cross and Garry Johnson, Ten Great Grandchildren and Three Great-Great Grandchildren. One sister Leona Ford of Apache, Oklahoma and daughter-in-law, Nancy Bridwell of Hobart, Oklahoma.

Preceded in death by parents, husband, Denton Bridwell in 1987, son, Malcolm Bridwell in 2012, Brothers, Chester Holcomb & John Holcomb, and Sister, Vivian Stiokoff.

The Memorial Service for Lucile will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Carnegie First Baptist Church.
