© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 18, 1936 Preston Breckenridge 1874 ~ 1936 Breckenridge Dies Suddenly To End Long Career Services Held Here Sunday For Former Banker; Was Caddo-Co. Pioneer Preston Breckenridge, 61, former mayor of Carnegie and for 25 years closely identified with the business development of Caddo county, died suddenly at Mathis, Texas, Thursday. He had been in his usual good health, but death came so quickly as he was seated in his chair, that others in the room did not know he had been stricken Coming to Oklahoma in 1901, Mr. Breckenridge secured a farm between Hydro and Eakly after the opening of the country. He has since been a resident of Caddo county, and his interests have been varied, and his interests have been varied. For a time in 1901 he worked in Weatherford. Later he was connected with a furniture business in Hinton. He was cashier of the Bank of Eakly from 1907 until 1919. He was interested in a garage business in Hydro from 1915 until 1928. After leaving Eakly the family moved to Anadarko where Mr. Breckenridge was connected with an oil well drilling company and was interested in real estate and investments. In 1923 he came to Carnegie and with a group of local business men organized the First National bank, serving as president. For years he was associated with A.M. Kelly in the automobile business. Active in church and civic affairs in the communities where he lived, he served many years as Sunday school superintendent. For two terms he was mayor of Carnegie and was elected first president of the local Kiwanis club. He has been a trustee of Oklahoma City University since 1921. At the age of 12 he joined the Methodist church and was loyal to it until his death. Preston Breckenridge was born Nov. 6, 1874, near Morton, Putnam county, Indiana. He was married to Miss Sarah Scott October 12, 1898. Besides his widow he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Irene Morton, Wichita Falls, Texas; two sons, Floyd S., Albuquerque, New Mexico and O.B., of Mathis, Texas, and three grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. Nora New _______and Mrs. May Crawford, Greenca____, Ind., and Mrs. Stella Frank, Anadarko, also survive. Services were conducted at the Carnegie Methodist church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Marion M. Monk, pastor, and internment was made in the Carnegie cemetery under direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home. Ared Scott and Simpson Scott, brothers of Mrs. Breckenridge, and her nephew, Layton Scott, all of Rockville, Indiana, were here for the funeral, as were all member of the immediate family.
