1917 ~ 2004


Graveside services for Rachel Oster Bolen, 87, of Carnegie will be held Wednesday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carnegie Cemetery with Jim Avery, Draper Park Christian Church in Oklahoma City officiating.

Rachel was born August 21, 1917 at Hobart to Glen and Lou [Ellis] Oster and died Sunday, October 3, 2004 in Oklahoma City.

She married Laurence R. Bolen on November 2, 1941 in Hobart. He preceded her in death in 1992.

She graduated from Hobart High School in 1935. She then attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1039 with a B.A. in education. She later attained a Masters Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Rachel and Laurence moved to Carnegie in 1954 where she taught at Carnegie High School from 1955 to 1965. Then she taught 6th grade from 1965 until her retirement. She was a member of the Quilting Guild, Delta kappa Gamma, First Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, Book Review Clubs and the Retired Teacher's Association.

She is survived by two sons, Laurence R. Bolen II, and Chris Bolen and wife, Brenda, all of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Leslie Hawkins and husband, Ken of Lawton; five grandchildren, Alycia Maurer and husband, Robert of San Antonio, Texas, Chad Williams and wife, Heather of Dallas, Texas, Kena Herring and husband, Ryan of Lawton, Keri Hawkins of Lawton and Rhett Bolen of Oklahoma City; three great grandchildren, Trey Maurer, Rachel Maurer and Hudson Herring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Raymond Oster. Services will be under the direction of the pitcher-Hackney Funeral Home in Carnegie.
