Joseph Harvey Bigbie

J.H. Bigbie Rites Held Tuesday Church

Funeral services for Joseph Harve Bigbie, an area pioneer, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist church with Rev. J.B. Shinn officiating. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery.

Bigbie suffered a stroke about three weeks ago and was in the Carnegie hospital until he died Sunday evening.

A native of Tennessee, he came with his parents to Oklahoma in 1900, settling on a farm near Mountain View. He was married September 19, 1909, to Miss Ivy Peoples. They established a home on a farm near Mountain View and lived there until 1925. They moved to the Carnegie community in 1926 and into Carnegie in 1944. He was born October 16, 1883, near Olive Hill, Tenn.

Six children were born to them. One daughter, Mabel Anne, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of the home on West Main; two sons, Ernest and Eugene, both of Carnegie; three daughters, Mrs. John Daubert, Gotebo, Mrs. Wayne Edge, Edmond, and Miss Letha Bigbie, Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; a twin brother, J.M. Bigbie, Mountain View, a sister, Mrs. George Melton, Carnegie, and several nieces and nephews.

Ivy Myrtle [Peoples] Bigbie
1893 ~ 1984


Funeral services for Ivy Myrtle Bigbie were held Friday, August 3, 1984 at the First Baptist Church in Carnegie. The Rev. Gerald A. Peters officiated the service. Burial was in the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of Pitcher-McClure Funeral Home

Mrs. Bigbie was born on August 18, 1893 in Mountain View, OK and died on Tuesday July 31, 1984 in the Carnegie Nursing Home. Mrs. Bigbie was married to Joseph W. Bigbie on September 19, 1909 in Mountain View. Mrs. Bigbie has lived in the Carnegie area for most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bibbie was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Peoples and Lulu Bell Kirkpatrick, her husband, one daughter, and two granddaughters.

Survivors include three daughters, Mildred Daubert, Gotebo; Jewel Edge, Edmon; Letha Bigbie, Oklahoma City; two son, Ernest and Eugine Bigbie, both of Carnegie; three sisters, Beulah Jackson, Moutain View; Willie Easterling, Perris CA; Ella Butlelr, Morton, TX; two brothers, Ollie Peoples, Plainview, TX; Marvin Peoples, Mountain View; 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.

Erma Letha Bigbie
1923 ~ 2004


Graveside services for Erma Letha Bigbie, 81, longtime resident of Oklahoma City, were held Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carnegie Cemetery with Rev. Paul Jones of Britton Baptist Church officiating.

Erma was born January 4, 1923 near Carnegie to Harve and Ivy [Peoples] Bigbie and died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 in Edmond.

She attended school in Carnegie and graduated in 1940 as Valedictorian of her class. She was a member of the Britton Baptist Church. He working career began in 1942 as a cashier in the TG&Y Variety Store in Carnegie. She later transferred to Oklahoma City where she retired after completing 37 years of responsible office and secretarial work in the main office of TG&Y.

She is survived by her sister, Jewel Edge of Edmond; three nieces, Donzetta Drumheller of Woodinville, Washington, Wanda Daubert of Gotebo, Carmelita Turner of Ada; four nephews, Jerry Bigbie of Riverside, California, Darrell Bigbie of Granbury, Texas, Jim Daubert of Hinton and Robert Edge of Bridge Creek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ernest and Eugene Bigbie and two sisters, Mildred Daubert and Mabel Bigbie.

Services were under the direction of the Pitcher-Hackney Funeral Home in Carnegie.
