Homer Ezra Bennett
1902 ~ 1971


Funeral services for Homer E. Bennett, 68, a lifelong resident of the Carnegie community, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 7, at the Alfalfa Baptist church. Rev Jimmie Riddlespurger officiated.

He was at work on a county road when he took suddenly ill last Tuesday. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the local hospital.

Homer Ezra Bennett was born July 18, 1902 near Alfalfa. He had been a member of the county road crew in this district for many years. he was married to Mirth Bell Bennett January 22, 1921. She preceded him in death in April of 1970. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include a son, Merrill Homer "Pete" of Carnegie; two granddaughters, Carla of Texas and Bridgett of Carnegie; two brothers, Mike of Carnegie and Luther of California; six sisters, Irene Rhoades of Carnegie, Mildred Hudgins of Oklahoma City, Opal Snelgrove of Tulsa, Ruby Jeck of Crescent, Nora Aaron and Edna Bowerman of California.

Bennett Rites Held Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Homer Bennett, 69, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Alfalfa Baptist church with Rev James Riddlespurger, pastor, of the local Assembly of God church. Interment was in the Carnegie cemetery.

Mrs. Bennett died April 4 in the Carnegie hospital.

Mirth Belle Bennett was born September 4, 1900 near Mountain View. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Merrill. She was married to Homer Bennett January 21, 1922 at Cordell and was a member of the local United Methodist church and of the Rebecca Lodge. She was preceded in death by one brother, Rufus Merrill.

Survivors include her husband, Homer, of the home; one son, Merrill H. Bennett of Oklahoma City; two brothers Herbert Merrill of Clinton and Grady Bel Merrill of Wichita Falls, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Bell Treadaway of Cordell and Mrs. Myrl Bell Davis of Mountain View; and two grandchildren.
