Ruby Mae [Brown] Belase
1914 ~ 2006

Funeral services for Ruby Belase, 92, of Carnegie will be held Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Carnegie with Adrian Cole and Derrek Belase officiating.

Ruby Mae Brown was born on a cold winter morning on December 23, 1914 in Ennis, Texas to William Fletcher and Cora [Cooper] Brown and died Monday, December 25, 2006 in Carnegie.

In 1919, both her parents were stricken with the flu epidemic that swept through Texas. They both passed away within two weeks of each other leaving nine children. The children were placed by their father in a Baptist Childrens home in Waxahachie, Texas.

When Ruby left home she came by train to Ft. Cobb to live with her sister Lola and James (Bud) Belase.

She met T.L. "Doc" Belase and they married October 9, 1931 in Anadarko. The two families were always close and lived within walking distance each other until their deaths.

She was a big part of the family farming operation working side by side with Doc to build a better life together. She also worked as a nurse at the Carnegie Hospital.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She did ceramics for many years and was a master quilter. Much love went into every stitch.

Ruby was the last matriarch of the Belase Family and was truly loved and treasured by all who knew her. She leaves a large circle of love and kindness behind just like the circle of love of the many beautiful quilts she made.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Pound and husband Wayne of Carnegie; two sons, Earl and wife Nita Belase of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Paul Belase of Carnegie; four grandsons, Adrian Cole, Trent Cole, Tom Belase and Michael Belase; seven great grandchildren;and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, T.L. "Doc" Belase and 10 brothers and sisters.

Burial will be in the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home in Carnegie.
