Funeral Services Held Friday For M.L. Anderson

Funeral services for M.L. Anderson, a long-time Carnegie resident, were held at 2:30 p.m. last Friday at the First Baptist church with Rev. Bill Dickover, pastor officiating. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, assisted. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge.

Anderson died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, November 1, from an apparent heart attack suffered at his home on South Delaware.

Melford Lamar Anderson was born October 21, 1896, to Bill and Bell Anderson in Cherokee county, Alabama. He was married October 28, 1917, to May Sentell at Jamestown, Ala. One son, Charles, was born to them. He and his family moved to Carnegie in 1921 where they had resided since.

He did carpenter work, served on the first volunteer fire department in Carnegie, and was a member of the local police force at different times. He became a member of the Baptist church at an early age and had been a member of the Carnegie church since 1922. He is survived by his wife of the home; one son, Charles of Carnegie; two grandsons, Bill of Lawrence, Kans., and Donnie of Carnegie; one great-granddaughter, Tracey Ann of Lawrence; three brothers, Martin of California, Eldon of Florida , and Macy of Lawton; two sisters, Gertie Tilden of Dos Palos, Calif., and Hanah Mae Crouch of Redding, Calif., and other relatives including M.B. Fanning and Irene Craig of Carnegie, Exie Reynolds of Mountain View and Betty Powers of Fort Cobb area.

Pallbearers were Marion McGill, Joe Hegner, Pete Mead, Huston Cox, Ira Caldwell and Russell Swarts.
