Ella Mae Chapman

Ella Mae Chapman, Harrah, OK, age 98, was born May 2, 1905, in Ennis, TX. She was the daughter of Isaac Wesley and Cornelia Perry Barney. She left this life January 17, 2004, in Harrah, OK.

Ella Mae married James Frank Chapman, Jr. on December 23, 1922; to this union 9 children were born. They farmed in the Swan Lake - Alfalfa community in Caddo County most of their lives.

Ella Mae was a member of the Quilting Club, and was awarded the Golden Thimble for her quilting. Her club made quilts for needy families.

They moved from the farm in 1972, and after the passing of her husband in October 1973, she lived by herself.

Ella Mae accepted the Lord as her savior Dec. 1, 1974, at the Alfalfa Baptist Church. Her son Larry, who was pastor of Swan Lake Baptist Church, baptized her.

She lived in her home in Alfalfa for 20 years, before moving to Harrah in April 1993, to live with her son & daughter-in-law. Ella Mae was a member of the Countryside Baptist Church in Newalla and was an active member of the Ernest Wolfe Day Care at Choctaw for the past five years.

Ella Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband James in 1973; four brothers; one sister; one daughter, Mildred Compton; one son, Earl Dean Chapman.

Survivors include 3 daughters & 1 son-in-law, Bessie Mae Hamilton, Casa Grande, AZ, Jimmie Lee Jones & Owen, Casa Grande, AZ, Theresa Ann Thompson, Richardson, TX; 4 sons & daughters-in-law, Frank & Carlene Chapman, Moore, OK, Noel Don & Jan Chapman, Desota, TX, Larry & Louise Chapman, Harrah, OK, Curtis Duane & La Chapman, Duncanville, TX; 1 brother, Frank Wesley Barney, Tonkawa, OK; 1 sister, Viola Beall, California; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren; 6 foster grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Heartland Hospice of Oklahoma City, Countryside Baptist Church, Newalla, OK, or the Alfalfa Burial Association.

Services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Countryside Baptist Church in Newalla, OK, with Rev. Bob Evans and Rev. Dean Rainwater officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday at Alfalfa Cemetery in Alfalfa, OK, with Rev. Len McNatt officiating.
