W.P. Truitt Dies Tuesday At His Home

Walter P. Truitt, 94-year-old pioneer of the Alden community, died Tuesday morning at his farm home south of Carnegie of a heart ailment. He was stricken three weeks ago and never rallied from the attack.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Baptist church with rev. C.N. Price, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Alden cemetery.

Arrangements are in charge of the Pitcher Funeral Home.

Mr. Truitt was born Oct. 9, 1849 at Barnesville, Ga. As a young man he went to Alabama and engaged in farming. He was married to Elizabeth Burdett at Ashland, Ala. The family moved from Alabama to this community in 1922 and Mr. Truitt has resided on his Alden farm since. Mrs. Truitt died Sept. 11, 1935.

Mr. Truitt was baptized and joined the Missionary Baptist church in Alabama in 1903. After coming to Oklahoma he transferred his membership to the Baptist church at Alden.

Altho retired from farming after coming to Oklahoma, he was active and in good health until recently.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. E.P. Hood, Tifton, Ga., and Mrs. J.R. Bussell, Fort Valley, Ga., and five sons, Grover C. Truitt and G.D. Truitt of Carnegie, W.S. Truitt, Phoenix, Ariz.; O.L. Truitt, Tuttle, and Gay Truitt, Amber.

Elizabeth [Burdett] Truitt
November 20, 1859 ~ September 11, 1935


Funeral Services For Mrs. Truitt Sunday

Funeral services were held at the Alden Baptist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon for Mrs. W.P. Truitt who passed away at the family home south of Alden late Wednesday. Rev. G.D. Howard and Rev. J.C. Traweek conducted the services and interment was made in the Alden cemetery under direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home.

Altho well past her three score years and ten, Mrs. Truitt was in her usual good health and active about the care of her home until ten days before her death. She has lain down to sleep as was her custom each afternoon and passed into a coma without awakening. She lingered several days but did not regain consciousness.

Elizabeth Berdette was born at Ashland, Ala., November 20, 1860, and died September 11, 1935, aged 75 years, 10 months and 9 days.

She grew to womanhood in Alabama and was married to W.P. Truitt at the age of eighteen.

She professed faith in Christ and was united with the Baptist church in 1903, and was a member of the Alden Baptist church at the time of her death. In 1922 the family moved to Oklahoma and have since lived in the Alden community.

Mrs. Truitt was the mother of eight boys and four girls, one boy and one girl dying in infancy and one girl at the age of three.

Surviving relatives include: Her husband, W.P. Truitt; two daughters, Mrs. E.P. Hood, Tifton, Ga., and Mrs. A.H. Brown, Montezuma, Ga., and seven sons, J.B. Truitt, Alden; G.C. Truitt, Carnegie; W.S. Truitt, Tucson, Ariz.; O.L. Truitt, Tuttle; R.C. Truitt, Carnegie; G.D. Truitt, Alden, and S.G. Truitt, Carnegie, of the immediate family besides 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

Harold Chester Truitt
November 3, 1921 ~ March 19, 1923


Chester, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Truitt, died Monday after an illness of two weeks.

The funeral will be conducted at the Alden Baptist church this afternoon by Rev. Morrison of Hinton and Rev. R.J. Morgan of the Carnegie Baptist church.

Interment will be made in the Alden cemetery.

Harold Chester Truitt was born November 3, 1921 at Alden, Okla., died March 19, 1923, aged 1 year, 4 months and 16 days.
