Strickland Rites In Spring Valley Church Sunday

Final rite for A.J. Strickland, 83, for 45 years a resident of this community, were in the Spring Valley Nazarene church at 2:30 Sunday and burial was in the Alden cemetery. He died February 4 in the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.A. Smith with whom he had lived since 1946. Rev. C.D. Clift, Hollis, conducted the service and was assisted by Rev. J.W. Sneed, pastor, and Rev. W.R. Aldridge of Carnegie.

Strickland came to his homestead 10 miles south and two west of Carnegie in 1903 where he lived until 1946 when he sold the land.

As a part of his activities in the community, he was a charter member of the Spring Valley Nazarene church, served as Sunday school superintendent 11 years, missing only two Sundays and also gave five acres of land for the church parsonage.

Andrew Johnson Strickland was born in Harrison county, MO., December 17, 1865.

He was married to Sarah Ann Patrick May 30, 1883, and to them seven children were born one dying in infancy.

The family came to Oklahoma and first located near Oklahoma City in 1901 before coming to Carnegie two years later.

Survivors include H.R. Strickland and Mrs. F.A. Smith, Carnegie; Mrs. A.L., Moore, Apache; Mrs. O.C. Young, Lawton; C.E. Strickland, Covina, Calif., and Mrs. Jake Mock, Watsonville, Calif. Also 35 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. One brother, D.E. Strickland, lives at Turpin.

Among relatives and friends here for the service from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Moore jr., Enid; Mr. and Mrs. Cody Jordan and daughter, Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth and son, Oklahoma City, and Miss Ellen Young and Mrs. Paul Eakin of Elgin.

Sarah Ann [Patrick] Strickland
June 24, 1864 ~ October 9, 1930


Sarah Ann Patrick, daughter of Harmon and Mary Patrick, was born in Ringold county, Iowa, June 24, 1864, and departed this life at her home 10 miles southwest of Carnegie October 9, 1930, at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 15 days.

She was united in marriage with Andrew Johnson Strickland May 30, 1883. To this union was born seven children, one, Nellie May, preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1893.

She removed from Iowa to Oklahoma in 1901, settling near Britton coming on to her present home near Carnegie in 1903.

She was converted at 15 years of age and joined the United Brethern church. After coming to Oklahoma she united with the Spring Valley Methodist church and later with the Spring Valley Nazarene church of which she was a faithful member at the time of her death.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, two sons, Charlie and Harmon, both of Carnegie, four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Smith of Carnegie, Mrs. Tillie Moore of Apache, Mrs. Clara Young of Carnegie; and Mrs. Mary Mock of Oklahoma City together with 29 grandchildren, all of whom attended the funeral, and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor W.H. Burton at Spring Valley Nazarene church.

The body was laid to rest in the Alden cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
