Funeral Services Saturday at Alden, Oklahoma, for Mrs. James Henry Smith

Funeral services were held here at 3 p.m., Saturday afternoon for Mrs. J.H. Smith who passed away Friday night. Marion M. Monk, pastor of the Methodist church conducted the service and burial was made in the Alden cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was 82 years, 7 months and 14 days of age.

Henrietta Forbes was born at Terra Haute, Indiana, August 27, 1854.

She was united in marriage to James Henry Smith in Columbus, Kansas, March 2, 1877. To them eight children were born, two dying in infancy.

Surviving children include her sons, Ed, John Arthur aka: “Ott”, and Barney L. Smith of Carnegie, Oklahoma; her daughters, Mrs. Minnie Zimmerman, Sedan; Mrs. G.E. Simmons and Mrs. A.A. Peoples, of Carnegie.

Mrs. Smith made her home with Mr. and Mrs. John A. "Ott" Smith where everything possible was done for her comfort.

She joined the Methodist church in childhood and it gave her joy to help those less fortunate.

Besides her six children, she is survived by 38 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Ed Smith, Former Carnegie Farmer, Dies Suddenly

Services for W.E. "Ed" Smith, 69, of Duncan, former Carnegie community farmer, were Saturday afternoon in the First Christian church here and burial was in the Alden cemetery. Smith was stricken Thursday at noon at the home of his son, Warren Smith, east of Duncan and died in a Duncan hospital at 3 p.m.

Rev. Harry O. Hubbard, minister, conducted the services and the Pitcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Smith was born in Cherokee county, Kansas, March 27, 1880.

He came to Oklahoma as a young man and was married to Miss Flora Berkley at her home south of Carnegie in July, 1906. To them five children were born.

He became a member of the Christian church in Siloam Springs, Ark., several years ago.

The family moved from Carnegie to their home six miles east of Duncan about 12 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Flora Smith of the home; two sons, Wayne and Warren, both of whom live east of Duncan, and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Alexandria. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. B.F. Zimmerman and Mrs. G.E. Simmoms of Carnegie, and two brothers, Ott Smith, Marlow, and Barn Smith of west Texas, as well as many other near relatives.

Former Alden Man Dies In Colorado

Funeral services for Edward Smith, former Alden boy who died at Lasalle, Colo. August 9 were held at the Alden church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Walker, pastor of the Assembly of God church at Edmond with burial in the Alden cemetery under direction of Pitcher Funeral Home.

James Edward Smith was born June 2, 1907 near Alden and died at his home at LaSalle, Colo. August 9, 1943 at the age of 36 years, 2 months and 7 days.

He had lived in and near Carnegie until moving to LaSalle seven years ago.

He was married to Edith McMullin of Colony December 15, 1934 and to this union two children were born, one of whom died in infancy.

He was converted and joined the Christian church at the age of 18 years, later uniting with the Assembly of God church.

Survivors include his wife and little daughter, Juanita Mae; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Smith; two brothers, Wayne and Warren, and one sister, Mrs. Noble Alexander, all of Duncan.

His brother, Orville, preceded him in death.

He also leaves his grandmother, Mrs. E.S. Berkley of this place and a host of relatives and friends.

Nora Eileen Smith
January 28, 1927 ~ February 14, 1928


The infant babe of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Smith died at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. J.H. Smith, eleven miles south of Carnegie, Tuesday, February 14.

Nora Eileen Smith was born January 28, 1927 and died February 14, 1928, being 1 year, two weeks and three days old.

Funeral services were held at Alden at 3 o'clock by Rev. Cliff.

Interment was made in the Alden cemetery. She leaves besides her father and mother, four sisters and three brother.
