James Elder McHenry
September 7, 1877 ~ April 17, 1941


J.E. McHenry, prominent farmer of the Alden community, died Thursday, April 17 at a Carnegie hospital following an illness of a little more than two weeks.

He suffered a serious stroke April 1 at his home. He was brought to the hospital here where he rallied at times, but failed to recover from effects of the original attack.

Born in Marion, Kansas September 7, 1877, Mr. McHenry came to Oklahoma in 1906 and located on a farm northeast of Alden where he has been identified with the development of the district and county.

He was chairman of the board of directors of the Farmers Co-operative Mill and Elevator Association of Carnegie for six years and a member of the Christian church.

He was married to Lenora McWilliams September 3, 1905 at Douglas, Kansas and to them four children were born.

Survivors include Mrs. McHenry and three sons, Wm. D. McHenry of Temple and Jimmie and Jack at home, as well as many other relatives.

Final rites were held at the Alden church Saturday afternoon by R.E. Harvey with friends and neighbors serving as pallbearers.

Burial was made in the Alden cemetery with arrangements in charge of the Harvey Funeral home of Fort Cobb.

McHenry Funeral Services Will Be Held Thursday

Services for Mrs. Annie Lenora McHenry, Route 2, Fort Cobb, will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Fort Cobb Baptist church with Rev. Ralph Renfrow officiating. Burial will be in the Alden cemetery.

Mrs. McHenry, a resident of the Alden area since 1906, died early Tuesday morning at her home seven miles south and six east of Carnegie. She had been ill for some time and critical the past week.

She was born December 7, 1877, at Douglas, Kans. and was married to J.E. McHenry at Douglas I October of 1905. They moved to the farm home in 1906.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1941.

She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist church.

She is survived by three sons, W.D. McHenry of Sulphur, Jim of the home and Jack, Shreveport, La.; one brother, J.E. McWilliams, Tonkawa; six grandchildren two step-grandchildren.
