John Ray Lowry
1871 ~ September 3, 1945


John Ray Lowry, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Lowry, was born in Dearborn, Missouri, Nov. 4, 1871 and passed away at his home in Anadarko, September 3, 1945. He was 73 years, 9 months and 29 days old.

He was married to Anna L. Schmidt at Anadarko, March 12, 1903. To this union three children were born, all of whom with their mother, survive. They are Mrs. Edith Calder, John W. Lowry, Anadarko and Mrs. Gertrude Pond, Fort Cobb.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two of whom, RM3/c John William Calder and Leroy Lowry, were unable to attend the funeral services; also five brothers and two sisters. They are: Joe Lowry, Tarkio, Mo.; Kim Lowry, Wellington, Kans.; Charles Lowry, Wichita, Kansas.; Floyd Lowry and D.C. Lowry of Oxford, Kans.; and Mrs. Anna Morris of Parsons, Kans., and Mrs. Mutie Zimmermam of Topeka, Kans. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

He was laid to rest in the Alden cemetery, attended by a large number of friends and neighbors who had known and loved him for many years. Rev. W.S. Vanderpool, pastor of the Anadarko Methodist church, conducted the service.

Honorary pallbearers were Mr. S.J. Sturgis, Mr. Dick Slater, Mr. Edd Horton, Mr. Chas. Dietrich, Mr. W.Wilson and Mr. A. Andregg.

Pallbearers were Mr. Arch Jones, Mr. Roland Calder, Mr. Hank Whitehouse, Mr. Chas. Mathews, Mr. Earl Brewington and Mr. Dick Horton.

He was a pioneer settler having ,moved to Oklahoma in the spring of 1902. He settled on a homestead 10 ,miles south of Carnegie where he lived until he moved to Anadarko in 1937, residing there until his death.

He was very active in community affairs and was a member of the Woodman lodge since 1910.

Rites held For Area Pioneer

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Lowry, 85, of Fort Cobb were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19 at the Fort Cobb Funeral Chapel. Rev. Less Thompson, Jr., Methodist minister, officiated. He was assisted by Rev. Leonard I. Gillingham of Oney.

Mrs. Lowry died May 15 at the Anadarko hospital following a lengthy illness.

Interment was in the Alden cemetery.

Mrs. Lowry was born February 14, 1886 at Mound Ridge, Kans. and came with her family to the Alden community at the age of 16.

She was married to John Ray Lowry March 12, 1903, and they resided on a farm in that community for 34 years before moving to Anadarko.

She was preceded in death by his husband in 1945.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leo Calder of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Keith Pond of Fort Cobb; one sons, John W. of Anadarko; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred, Henry and Jake Schmidt and one sister, Mrs. L.A. Shuster, all of Carnegie.
