Claude Rufus "Spoggy" Lawrence
July 18, 1913 ~ June 16, 1987


Claud Rufus Lawrence was born July 18, 1913 in Dougherty, Oklahoma to Varney Thomas Lawrence and Mary Ann Lucas.

He grew up in Dougherty and moved with his family to Carnegie, Oklahoma in 1940. He moved to California in 1943 and worked as a ranch hand. He returned to Oklahoma in 1960 and worked for Fort Cobb State Park.

He married Elsie Adams on July 30, 1952 in Merced, California. She passed away February 26, 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Varney and Mary Ann (Lucas)Lawrence, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include: Three Step-Sons: Bennie Adams of Cordell, Oklahoma; David Adams of Bellflower, California and Jimmy Adams of Tulare, California. Stepmother: Doreta Gooday of Carnegie, Oklahoma. Five Brothers: Bill Lawrence of Alfalfa, Oklahoma, Allin Lawrence of Eakly, Oklahoma, Ray Lawrence of Carnegie, Oklahoma, Johnny Lawrence of Sulphur, Oklahoma and Carlin Lawrence of Santa Ana,California. Eight Sisters: Brenda Thomas of Eakly, Oklahoma, Ruth Farrelly of Lawton, Oklahoma, Alice Mills of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Doris Butler of Mt. View, Oklahoma, Willie Kinter of Jones, Oklahoma, Agnes Goolsby and Edna Woods both of Chowchilla, California. Twelve Grandchildren and one Great Grandson.

Sevices were held June 19, 1987 at 10:30am in the Chapel of the Fort Cobb Funeral Home,

Burial was in the Albert Cemetery under the direction of the Fort Cobb Funeral Home.

Elsie C. [Valentine] Lawrence
May 29, 1922 ~ February 26, 1985


Elsie Lawrence was born May 29, 1922 to Oscar P. Valentine and Magie V. Dickerson and passed away at the age of 63.

She married Claude Lawrence on July 30, 1952 in Merced, California. The couple moved to Sulphur, Oklahoma in 1960 and to Caddo County in 1968. They lived in Carnegie for time before moving to Oney-Albert, Oklahoma.

She was a former employee of Beauty Craft Tile in Carnegie, Oklahoma and Universal Sound in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. She and husband Claude both were employed by Fort Cobb State Park. They planted many of the pine trees that are growing all over Fort Cobb Lake area.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include: Her husband, Claude of the home. Three Sons: Jimmy Adams of Tulare, California, David Adams of Bellflower, California and Bennie Adams of Cordell, Oklahoma. Two Brothers: Floyd and Roy Valentine of California. One Sister: Joyce Fairchild of California. Thirteen Grandchildren

Services were held Friday, March 1, 1985 at 10:30am at the Fort Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Williams officiating.

Burial was in the Albert Cemetery under the direction of the Fort Cobb Funeral Home.
