Wendell Almo Grissom
February 17, 1917 ~ August 30, 1958


Services for Wendell A. Grissom, 41-year-old welder and mechanic, were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Oney Christian church with Rev. Burt Miller, Altus, former pastor, assisted.

Burial was in the Oney cemetery.

Grissom, who had been in ill health for the past four years apparently died of a heart attack while parked along a county road five miles northwest of Fort Cobb early Saturday morning. Grissom's body was found with his knees on the ground and his head resting on the floor boards of the car. Sheriff Ray Larison was called, a coroner's jury ruled Grissom had died of natural causes.

He was born February 17, 1917, near Fort Cobb.

He had been a member of the Oney Christian church since he was 16 years of age.

Survivors include his wife of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Joan and Geanille of Sand Springs; a son, Bobby Gene, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; two step children Patricia and Ricky of Houston; his mother, Mrs. Linnie Grissom, Carnegie; a brother, Ellis, Carnegie; and a sister, Mrs. Clarence Rexroat, Alfalfa.

April 25, 1935 ~ November 23, 2009


eanel Gunn, age 74, passed away Monday, November 23, 2009. She was born April 25, 1935 to Loyal and Hazel [Compton] Gage in Albert-Oney, OK.

Jeanel was a 1953 graduate of Oney High School.

She worked many years for SW Bell and AT&T before retiring in 1992. After retirement she worked for All American Bank in Mustang.

Jeanel lived in Mustang from 1965 until 1994, then moved to Carnegie for a short while and moved to Yukon in 1996. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe.

She is survived by her husband, Ivan, of the home; son, Ricky and wife Kaye of Haslet, TX; daughters: LaDonna Emory and husband Leon of Wichita Falls, TX; Jane Melton and husband Larry of Yukon, OK; by brother, Robert Nelson of Binger, OK; also by six grandchildren and 2 "special" great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Tuesday from 8am to 8pm; family will greet friends from 6pm - 8pm. Services will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 25, 2009, in the Chapel of The Good Shepard at McNeil's Funeral Service, Mustang, OK, with interment at 3:30pm in the Oney Cemetery, Oney, Oklahoma.
