Martha Lou Medell Mitchell

Bennington, OK- Martha Lou Mitchell passed from this life at 1:16 AM Saturday morning, August 23rd, 2025 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 72. Martha Lou was born on Tuesday, August 11th, 1953 in Durant, Oklahoma to Ramsey Douglas Medell and Bertha Veatrice (Brackett) Medell.

Martha Lou grew up in Bennington, Utica, and Durant, graduating from Bennington High School in 1971. She married Roy Mitchell on March 16, 1993 in Durant, he precedes her in death on December 21st, 2003. Martha Lou worked as a secretary/bookkeeper throughout her career. She was employed with J.C. Potter Sausage for 21 years, Roby's Hallmark for 6 years, and lastly at Mackey's Home Furnishings for 10 years.

Martha Lou enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and reading a good book. Her family can attest that she was great in the kitchen. Martha Lou would make her delicious tater tot casserole and cherry cheesecake for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most of all, she loved playing with her grandkids and great grandkids. She is of the Baptist faith.

Martha Lou was also preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Sue Gleason and sister, Kay Donna Lamar.

She is survived by her daughter, Christy Jackson of Calera; her siblings, Mary Durant of Oklahoma City, Bob Rich of Combine, Texas, Jabo Rich and wife Nancy of Combine, Texas, Charles Rich and wife Pam of Durant, and Jackie Grounds and husband Gene of Bennington; step-daughter Glenda Mitchell of Ada, Oklahoma; 3 grandkids Danielle Harger, Destiny Meade, and Kandra Taylor; 2 great-grandsons Cody Harger and Dustin Harger; along with other extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 26th, at Wolf Creek Cemetery outside of Utica, Oklahoma. Bro. Joe Beshirs will officiate.
