Dorthy M. Martin

martin-d-m

September 19, 1938 - August 14, 2026

Dorthy Martin, a kind and gentle woman whose life was marked by devotion to her family, her work, and her faith, passed away on August 14, 2026, in Durant, Oklahoma, at the age of 87.

She was born on September 19, 1938, in El Dorado, Arkansas, and carried the values of hard work, compassion, and quiet strength throughout her life. Dorthy was known by those who loved her as a woman with a warm heart and a steady presence, someone who met life with grace and cared deeply for the people around her. Her life reflected the simple but powerful gifts of love, service, and faith, and she will be remembered with great affection by all who knew her.

For many years, Dorthy worked as a cook for Sherrers restaurant, where she served others with dedication and pride. Her work was more than a job, as it was a reflection of her generous spirit and her desire to care for those around her. She brought the same patience and kindness to her work that she carried into every part of her life. Those who knew her in the community remember her as dependable, gracious, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Dorthy found joy in the things that made home and family special. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and spending time with her family, and these interests brought comfort and happiness to her life. Whether she was preparing something sweet in the kitchen or creating something with her hands, she shared her talents in ways that made others feel loved and cared for. Her family meant the world to her, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her gentle nature and loving presence created memories that will be held close for years to come.

She was a faithful member of the Baptist faith, and her beliefs were an important part of who she was. Her faith guided her through life's joys and challenges and gave her strength in times of need. The example she set through her kindness, humility, and devotion will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. Dorthy lived with a quiet dignity that left a lasting impression on her family and friends.

Dorthy is survived by her son, David Williams and wife Janice of Durant, Oklahoma; her son, Michael Williams of Silo, Oklahoma; her daughter, Rhonda Butler and husband Ricky of Durant, Oklahoma; her daughter, Cindy Merseechi of Caddo, Oklahoma; and her daughter, Faith Mitchell and husband Wilson of Durant, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Dorthy has many loved ones and friends who will cherish her memory and carry forward the love she gave so freely.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Larry Martin, her three sons, James Roy Williams, Marvin Day Williams, and Doyle White Jr., and one grandson, Marvin Dale White. Though her passing leaves a deep sorrow in the hearts of those who loved her, her memory remains a source of comfort and strength. The legacy of her kindness, gentleness, and devotion to family will live on in the lives she touched.

Dorthy Martin will be remembered with love and respect for the beautiful life she lived. Her presence brought warmth to her family, her work, and her community, and her memory will continue to be a blessing to all who knew her.

The family will receive friends for visitation and family hour at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday evening, August 18, from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday morning, August 19, at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment in the Silo Restland Cemetery, Silo, Oklahoma.
