Grover Leslie Townsend

A beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and friend, Grover Leslie Townsend, age, 90, was called home to his Heavenly Home on June 10, 2022, surrounded by his family. Grover was born on May 30, 1932, in Yarnaby, Oklahoma to Dee and Nellie Townsend.

A lifelong resident of Bryan County, Grover was active in the United States Navy from 1952-1956, as well as the Reserves from 1956-1960. He is the founder of Townsend Steel Company since 1956 and joined the Achille Masonic Lodge in 1967, served as Worshipful Master, 1970, 1988, and 1996. He was a member of the Little Dixie Shriners, Achille Masonic Lodge, and a faithful member of Victory Life Church. In his time spent at home, he loved running Circle T Ranch, cattle, ranching, and having coffee with his friends at the local gas station and attending Sunday service at Victory Life Church with his wife of 45 years, Jean.

Grover is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Patty Cooper; one grandson; four brothers and three sisters.

Grover is survived by his wife Jean Townsend of the home; daughters Judy Ames of Lee’s Summit, MO and Darla Dollar of Cartwright, OK; sons Chris Dellinger and wife Donna of Prosper, TX, Steve Dellinger and wife Eunice of Midlothian, TX and Ken Dellinger of Allen, TX; sisters Louise Ames of Calera, OK and Sharon Dillingham of Calera, OK; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous extended family and dear friends.

A celebration of Grover’s life was held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. David Sanders officiated. Interment followed in Rosewood Cemetery in Achille with Roy Lee Taylor, Mike Dotson, Jim Acord, Danny Tidwell, Tommy Dodson, and Onnie Hewitt serving as pallbearers. The family received friends at the Funeral Home June 14 from 6-8 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
