Melissa Barbee St. Pierre

stpierre-m-b

January 5, 1942 ~ June 11, 2025

Melissa Barbee St. Pierre died June 11, 2025 at Rambling Oaks Assisted Living facility. She was born January 5, 1942 in Achille, Oklahoma, the daughter of Addie Belle Gaines Barbee and Cecil Barbee. Melissa graduated from Denton High School, class of 1960; received a Bachelor of Science from North Texas State University, class of 1963; and earned a Masters in Education and English from the University of New Hampshire, class of 1970.

While teaching in Utah, she met and married Charles (Skip) St. Pierre in 1965. They had two daughters, Theresa St. Pierre and Marie St. Pierre. Charles passed in 1984, and Marie passed in 2022. In 1998, Melissa married a long time friend, Paul Schneikart who subsequently passed in 2008. Melissa taught for 35 years; in her own words, she was called to do so. She enjoyed teaching and was very good at it. She was strict and exacting, but the students loved her and thought she was brilliant. During five of those years, she taught alongside her eldest daughter, Theresa. The students dubbed the duo as "Dr. Evil," and "Mini Me." A lover of all things English, Melissa read Shakespeare for fun and corrected anybody who used the English language improperly. (One does something well done.)

Melissa was a member of the Senior Choir at Faith Lutheran Church for over 20 years, even though she was a bit tone deaf. She was also a member of the Red Hats and enjoyed socializing with all her friends. She was an avid bridge player as well. Ever the educator, she taught people how to play the game even during the later days of her life at Rambling Oaks. Melissa was known as someone who tells it like it is. A person never had to guess how the felt about anybody or anything. Her tongue was as sharp as her mind. Despite, or perhaps because of, her frankness, she was liked by many. At the assisted living facility of Rambling Oaks, the employees said about her, that the harder the patient, the deeper the love.

Melissa is survived by her daughter, Theresa St. Pierre, and son-inlaw, Bruce Turner; her five grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Charles (Skip), Ryan, Chloe, and John Turner St. Pierre; and her two older sisters, Shirley Wheat and Delores Wallack.

A Graveside Service of remembrance of family members will be held Wednesday, June 25th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Oklahoma.
