Richard Lee Nichols

nichols-r-l

April 21, 1947 ~ December 19, 2022

Richard Lee Nichols, 75, passed from this life on December 19, 2022 with his family at his side. He was a loving and devoted husband, Dad, Papa, brother, and friend. He was born to Howard and Avis (Little) Nichols on April 21, 1947. He attended school in Denison and Kemp, graduating from Kemp High School in May 1966. After high school graduation he enlisted in the Navy, serving for four years. He later joined the Army Reserve, serving as drill sergeant for many years before retiring. He married Sharia Ramey on January 19, 1973. They had one daughter, Kelli. Richard and Sharia enjoyed 48 years together prior to her passing in February 2021.

Richard loved spending time with family and going to the deer woods with his friends John and Gary, but his greatest joy in life was being a Papa to his only granddaughter Mallory. He was always there for anything she did, whether it be cheering at a football game, participating in a theatre performance, or competing in a livestock show. He was Mallory's biggest fan and they had a very special relationship, which she will always treasure.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Kelli Myracle and her husband Craig of Telephone, TX; granddaughter Mallory Myracle of Telephone, TX; brothers Bill Nichols of Calera, OK; Chester Nichols and wife Joyce of Kemp, OK; Joe Nichols and wife Dolly of Achille, OK; and Jim Bob Nichols of Kemp, OK; a host of extended family and friends, along with special friends of many years, John Kilpatrick and Gary Williams, both of Durant, OK. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharia, his parents Howard and Avis Nichols, and his brothers Eddie Nichols and Jack Nichols.

Family visitation will be held at Kemp Baptist Church on Monday, December 26 from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Kemp Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 27 at 2:00pm with Roger Speers officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The register book may be signed and condolences sent to the family online at cunninghamfuneralhomesok.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, OK.
