Mary Eugenia Wade Roper, 93, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. She resided in Oklahoma City for the past two years, but lived most of her life at Kenefic and Calera in Bryan County.

Eugenia, known by many as Gene, was born February 7, 1914, in Kenefic.

She married George Roper on December 24, 1935, and they lived on a farm in Kenefic where they reared their five girls.

Eugenia was an excellent seamstress and taught her girls to sew.

She was a very strong, opinionated and dynamic woman.

She was Homemaker of the Year in Bryan County in 1973.

She loved people and made friends easily. Gene had a wonderful sense of humor.

She was president of the Bryan County Home Demonstration Club, and very active in the First Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Kenefic and Calera.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years; two daughters, Laura Johnson and Marilyn Jones; brother, Robert Wade; and two sisters, Ruby Alice White and Eleanor Wilson.

She is survived by three daughters, Dr. Lydia Roper of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Kay Roper Chappa and husband Lee of Garland, Texas and Carolyn Ticer and husband Larry of Moore, Oklahoma; sister, Mildred Brown and husband George of Carbondale, Illinois; four grandchildren, Mary Potter and husband Robert, Laurie Dunlap and husband Jerry, Chris Jones, and Carla Weibling and husband Stephen; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Dalton-Holmes Chapel, Durant, with Rev. Randa Norman officiating.

Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera with nephews Charlie Adams, John Adams, Jerry Dean, Billy Roper Hall, Harold Wayne Hall, Richard Hall, Landrum Roper and Joe Chat Beasley serving as pallbearers.

Family hour will be from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Rose Hill Cemetery , P.O. Box 447, Calera, Oklahoma 74730, Calera United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 288, Calera, Oklahoma 74730, or a charity of your choice.
