Edward Lee Patterson

patterson-e-l

April 24, 1940 - January 27, 2026

Edward Lee Patterson, beloved grandfather, friend, and respected community member, left this world peacefully on January 27, 2026, at the age of 85, in Denison, Texas. Edward was born on April 24, 1940, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to William Edward Patterson and Hester Patterson. He cherished his upbringing and carried the values instilled in him by his parents throughout his life.

Edward lived a life defined by service and dedication. Edward served his country honorably as a radio operator in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his character and deepened his sense of responsibility and dedication to others.

Edward's professional journey was marked by his role as a City Inspector for Durant, Oklahoma, where he served diligently for 26 years. His work was not just a job; it was a vocation that continued to hold meaning for him long after his retirement. Edward's commitment to his community remained evident throughout his life.

Education was paramount to Edward. After graduating from Fox High School, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master's Degrees in Behavioral Science and in Behavioral Studies in Secondary Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma.

His thirst for knowledge was matched only by his deep appreciation for the wonders of the universe. Edward was particularly captivated by astronomy. He kept abreast of the latest discoveries, often sharing his enthusiasm with friends and family. He also enjoyed long drives to see the sights with Glynna, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.

His legacy continues through his grandchildren: April Nelson of Sulphur, Oklahoma; Erica Nelson of Cushing, Oklahoma; Kenneth Cooper of Kenefic, Oklahoma; and Alisha Gray of Durant, Oklahoma; his 10 great-granchildren; and his 5 great-great-grandchildren. Edward also held a special place in his heart for his honorary granddaughters, Callie Roberts of Durant, Oklahoma, and Sara Anglin of Sherman, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, W.E. and Hester Patterson; the love of his life, Glynna Nelson, with whom he shared 50 years; and his honorary children, Glenn Nelson, Gaylon Nelson, and Gina Cooper, who brought joy and laughter into his life.

A funeral honoring Edward's remarkable life will be held on February 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel, where family and friends will gather to memorialize the love and joy he brought to those around him. Burial service will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael Stanford, Donald Stanford, John Miller, Zachary Sheffield, Ashley Stephens, and Peytin Long.

Edward Lee Patterson will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his community, his boundless curiosity, and his kind spirit.
