Ida Charlene Hays Grigg

grigg-i-c

May 7, 1955 - January 14, 2026

Ida Charlene Hays passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in Denison, Texas, at the age of 70. She was born on May 7, 1955, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Ida (Kerns) Hays and Charles Hays.

Charlene grew up in Enid and Durant, Oklahoma, and later settled in Colbert, Oklahoma, with her partner and love of her life, Vernon Webb. They built a life together, beginning in 1977, until his passing in 2021.

Charlene was the loving mother of three children: Rebecca Maxwell, Stephanie Clouse, and Russell Dale Webb, who lived only three days but remained forever in his parents' hearts. She treasured her son-in-law, Corey Clouse, and her grandchildren, Karsyn, Averie, Ryan, and Jacob, who were the pride of her life and her greatest joy.

Charlene worked both as a nurse and within her family's businesses, always lending her time, talent, and energy wherever it was needed. Whether she was caring for patients, helping with the construction company, or pitching in at the RV park, she was a steady presence.

Much like her love for those around her, Charlene's attention to detail was unmatched. Her spice jars and canned goods always faced the same direction, her handwriting was straight and even, her vegetables were always sliced and diced perfectly, and she could fold a set of sheets with department-store precision. Family vacations and appointments often started a little late because everything needed to be just right before she walked out the door.

She enjoyed classic films and Westerns, especially The Virginian, which became a familiar comfort in her final weeks. Above all else, Charlene devoted her life to caring for her people, her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Charlene is preceded in death by her parents; her partner, Vernon Webb; her infant son, Russell Dale; and siblings Bob Morrison, Betty Jones, Dottie Prentice, Jesse Cook, and Charles Hays.

She is survived by her daughters Rebecca Maxwell and Stephanie Clouse (Corey), her grandchildren Ryan, Jacob, Karsyn, and Averie, her sisters Roberta Reynolds, Wilma Hays, and Rita Hays, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service to honor Charlene's life will be held on Saturday, January 31, at 10:30 a.m. at the RiverView Rally Room, located at 300 S. Dickson Drive in Colbert. Darren Gilbert will officiate the service, and friends and family who feel led are warmly invited to share memories or stories in her honor.

Charlene's family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Wilma Hayes and Delphine Webb, whose tireless help, love, and support during her final months made it possible for Charlene to remain surrounded by family and care. Their devotion will never be forgotten.

Charlene's life was defined by quiet strength, unwavering love, and a heart that never stopped giving. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Services.
