Billy Jay (BJ) Mullens of Armstrong, Oklahoma, passed into eternity on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the age of 73. He was born to Edly Hershel Mullens and Dorothy Francis (Paddock) Mullens on December 5, 1952 in Durant, Oklahoma.
BJ and Lisa Baker were joined in marriage on October 25, 1973 in Sherman, Texas, and they made their home and raised their three children on their ranch near Armstrong.
Well known throughout the area as the owner and operator of BJ's Tires in Durant since 1990, he will be greatly missed for his kindness, honesty, work ethic, and especially conversation. He is described by customers and friends alike as a great neighbor, generous, humble, and big-hearted, ready with a good story or a needed piece of advice.
A proud member of the Choctaw Nation, BJ was also a veteran of the Army National Guard of Oklahoma, a Sergeant First Class Infantryman and Medic with the 180th, and well thought-of by his fellow Guardsmen, serving 41 years, 8 months, and 4 days.
BJ enjoyed the pace of a small town and rural way of life, including his daily stop at the Magnolia Cafe' for breakfast, baling hay, working cattle, watching "Blue Bloods", reading, and the company of his dog Hank. His sense of duty and community led him to oversee the care of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery for over 20 years, serve on the Caddo Public School Board for 12 years, and rise to 32nd Degree Mason.
BJ is survived by Lisa, his beloved wife of 52 years; his son Dustin Mullens and wife Mandy of Durant; his son Ethan Mullens and wife Kim of Mead, Oklahoma; his daughter Tori Evans and her husband Brian of Centrahoma, Oklahoma; his grandchildren Madyson Mullens, Kaden Mullens, Taylor Brigman, Willow Evans, and Juniper Evans; and countless good friends made over a lifetime.
Preceding BJ in death were his parents and his siblings.
BJ will be laid to rest with military honors presented by the Choctaw Nation Honor Guard on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at a graveside service in Pleasant Hill Cemetery east of Armstrong, Oklahoma. Landon Jestis will officiate.
The Mullens Family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening, June 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorial donations can be made in BJ's honor to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund, 5068 Sawmill Road, Caddo, Oklahoma 74729.
