Richard Armor
Richard Armor

April 29, 1948 ~ May 24, 2017

Richard Armor was born April 29, 1948 in Bennington, Oklahoma and left this life on May 24, 2017.

Preceded in death by his parents: Odies J.L. Armor and Norma Louise (Hood) Armor; brother Jerry Armor, and Lesa’s mother Donna Gay.

He leaves behind a legacy for his daughter Lesa Herring; brothers Doyle Armor and Michael Armor, and sisters Donna Neff and Cheryl Taylor (husband Paul Taylor); his four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He attended and graduated from Denison High School; and married Donna Gay Clay on April 15, 1967 becoming father to Lesa Faye. Richard later joined the US Marine Corp on January 7, 1972 and retired as Master Sgt. on February 1, 2002.

In looking back on his life, Rich was many things to many people; and depending on when you knew him, it was often a surprise to see what he was up to later on. Richard was in turns a loving husband and father; a ramrod straight Marine – the kind of Marine that others wanted to become; a caring brother by blood, or brother in arms during his lifetime of service to our nation. He could be hard as nails when he needed to be; but at other times, he was as gentle and caring as was needed when watching over those he loves. He embodied the Corp motto: Semper Fidelis – always faithful.

Richard loved many things - working on helicopters and motorcycles is what many remember him for. He loves things that make noise and go fast. Others remember his love of creating something beautiful or useful from a piece of metal or wood; and still others, for growing fruits and vegetables in the garden. He was sort of a jack of all trades, even a master of many, though you might not have ever known it.

Richard also loved many people - the young men he watched over and helped to shape; his family and friends, his beloved pets Jasmine and Ginger…and a few other 'ladies" along the way. Whether it is his smile, quick wit and banter; or his knowledge of mechanical things, Rich could be a force to be reckoned with, someone to be counted on; and all who knew and love him will miss him deeply.

Semper Fi, until we meet again.
