James "Box Car" Stephens

September 23, 1939 ~ January 19, 2022

James "Box Car" Stephens, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, left this life and joined his Savior on January 19, 2022, at the age of 82. He was born in Durant, OK to Paskel Stephens and Myrtle (Gibson) Stephens on September 23, 1939. James married Gloria Pair in Drumright, OK on April 27, 1962.

James supported his family as a self-employed truck driver. He enjoyed his job and personally kept his truck in tip top shape. James enjoyed browsing in flea markets looking for bargains, a quiet day of fishing, and camping under the stars.

Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Gloria of the home: children, James W. Stephens of Durant, OK, Terry Stephens and wife Angie of Durant, OK, Billy Stephens and wife Sherry of Durant, OK, Michael Stephens and wife Soni of Durant, OK, Lisa Waggoner and husband Jim of Cameron, MO, and Tasha Cummins and husband Dillon of Durant, OK: grandchildren, Brandon Stephens, Dana Mason, Ashley Stephens, Courtney Henson, Peyton Stephens, Malachi Stephens, Justin Stephens, Spencer Stephens, Hunter Stephens, Brittany Doshier, Morgan Waggoner, Addilyn Piper, Gracelyn Piper, Jamison Cummins, Justin Wayne Anzaldua, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by parents, Paskel and Myrtle Stephens, and siblings, Kay Headrick, Lillie Hobbs and Don Stephens.

Family hour will be on Sunday January 23rd from 3-4:00 PM at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, OK. A funeral service in his honor will be at 2:00 PM on Monday January 24th at the Victory Tabernacle in Durant, OK with Bro. Doyle Pair and Bro. James Williams doing the graveside. The final resting place will be the Mead Cemetery in Mead, OK with Eugene Stephens, Darrell Meadors, Dillon Cummins, Joe Doshier, Jim Waggoner, and Andy Rhodes as his pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be Fred Rains, Darrell Rhodes, Troy Holland Sr., and Gerald Cole. The service will be available via live stream on the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Home Facebook page.

Service are under the direction of Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, OK.
