Sammy Edwin Turnbull

Sammy Edwin Turnbull age 74, was born October 1st 1947 to Donald (Blackie) Turnbull and Lucy Elrod Turnbull in Kemp , Oklahoma. He lived in Denison, Texas most of his life, graduating from Denison high School. After graduation, he joined the Army. He served in Vietnam, as a gunner on a helicopter during his tour. Sammy was wounded while in Vietnam receiving the purple heart award. He drove trucks and worked in construction until he became ill. Sammy was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. A member of the Fraternal order of the eagles Lodge 85, and a member of the American legion Post 62.

He is survived by one Brother, Billy Jan and sister-in-law Susan Turnbull. His brother-in-law Billy C Smith and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins Sammy was proceeded in death by the love of his life June Cottingame ,his parents Blackie and Lucy Turnbull , Brothers Jimmy and Richard Turnbull and sister Donette Turnbull Smith .

A family night will be held Friday May 6th 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at the Kemp Baptist Church. A Funeral Service for Sammy Edwin Turnbull will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday May 7th in the Kemp Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Speers officiating. Burial will follow in the Kemp Cemetery in Kemp Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Jason Cottingame, Jimmie Cottingame, Shane Covey, Colton Duvall, Tommy Turnbull and Johnny Weger. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronald (Two Dogs) Jennings and Jack Spears. A luncheon will follow the funeral services at the Kemp Baptist Church family Life center. The register book may be signed and condolences sent to the family online @ cunninghamfuneralhomesok.com Arrangements are entrusted to Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, Oklahoma.
