A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004 at Grace Baptist Church for Leonard D. Clark, 73, who died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at MCSO in Durant. The Rev. Anthony Williams will officiate.

He was born Friday, August 15, 1930, in Paris, Texas, to Frazier Cecil and Olma Faye Massey Clark.

He married Irene Frances White August 18, 1952, in DeQueen, Arkansas,

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge and enjoyed buying and selling old cars and going to auctions.

Clark was a teacher, coach and school administrator for 31 years. He began at Byers, Texas, as a basketball and volleyball coach. His volleyball team won the State Championship of Texas in 1953. He was a principal at Smith-Lee School in Bryan County, a coach at Soper High School and Superintendent of Schools at Kemp High School. From 1964-1968 he was the Superintendent of Schools at Grant High School, Grant. From 1969-1982 he was the superintendent of Bennington High School, and from 1982-1984 he was the superintendent of Cameron High School, Cameron. He retired in 1984. After retiring, Clark owned and operated his own independent mail {contractor} trucking business, Clark Trucking, until 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents, F.C. and Olma Clark.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Clark of the home; his sons, Alan Clark and wife Dianne, Carrollton, Texas, Charles D. Clark and wife Vicki, Austin, Texas; daughter Marilyn J. Cawood and husband Daniel, Coldspring, Texas; brother Jerry D. Clark and wife Debbie, Durant; grandaughters Angela Clark, Irving, Texas, Kaci Lahpor and husband Jan Jaap, Austin, Texas, Kendra Clark, Burbank, California, Brooke Clark, Carrollton, Texas, Kara Clark, Austin, Texas, Christi Marsh, Coldspring, Texas; grandson, Jacob Cawood, Coldspring, Texas and one half-sister, Marie Mitchell of Vale, Oregon.

Burial will be at Jackson Cemetery in Bennington. Pallbearers will be Charlie Anderson, Cecil Lynn, Waylan Kelso, Alva White, Milton White and Kevin Clark.

Family hour is from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Coffey-Murray Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
