Doris Townsend a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Wednesday January 10, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born in Calera, Oklahoma on July 7, 1929 to Walter A. and Maple (Gilbert) Baker. Doris married Leland Townsend on December 31, 1950 in Denison, Texas.
Doris loved working in her garden, and harvesting all the fruits of her labor. She enjoyed looking for treasures at antique stores, auctions, and estate sales. But most of all Doris cherished her grandchildren and going to the movies with them.
Mrs. Townsend is survived by her beloved husband Leland Townsend of Durant, Oklahoma; son, Kenny Townsend and wife Donna of Durant, Oklahoma; daughter, Linda Behrens and husband Ed of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Brian Townsend and wife Jordan of Durant, Oklahoma and Crystal Leybas and husband Ian of McAlester, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Tatum Townsend of Durant, Oklahoma, Finlee June Townsend of Durant, Oklahoma, Kaylee Leybas of McAlester, Oklahoma, and Cole Leybas of McAlester, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Maple Baker; brothers, Don, Hack, Hoyt, Bill, Dale, and Flavey Baker; sisters, Leona and Nadine.
Family hour will be at 6:30 PM on Friday January 12th at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A chapel service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday January 13th at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Chapel with Bro. Scott Hamilton officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery.
