Norweitta "Poppy" Lou Hankins, 90, of Mead, Oklahoma, went to rest at her eternal home on May 14, 2025.
Poppy was born on April 25, 1935, in Spur, Texas, to James Henry Parker and Lou Alice Parker. Poppy was married to Luther Erron Hankins Jr. for 29 beautiful years. They were wed on May 2, 1996, in Arkansas. She was a high school graduate and worked in customer service for most of her life. Poppy enjoyed gardening, reading, writing poetry, and spending time with her family. The family offers a very special thank you to her son, Jimmy, for being her caretaker. He was extremely patient and caring for her. A very special thank you to Kelly for caring for her mother for two years. A very special thank you to Tina for all the help she provided. She would watch Poppy without hesitation. A very special thank you to Tiffany Boatners for being so wonderful to Poppy. Like everyone else, she was very professional in caring for Poppy. "As I always said, Momma gets what Momma wants."
Poppy is preceded in death by her parents; James Henry Parker and Lou Alice Parker. Husband; Luther Erron Hankins Jr., Robert Hankins, and Gwen Atkinson.
Poppy is survived by her sons; James Donald Hankins of Mead, OK, Randall Kirk Hankins and spouse Johanna of Houston, TX, daughter; Kelly Janell Hankins Shepard and spouse Richard of Garland, TX, step-daughter; Tina Gayle Hankins Small and spouse John of Durant, OK, brothers; Jerry Donald "Tony" Parker of Mesa, AZ, James Leon Parker and spouse Suzie of Mesa, AZ, grandson; Jonathan Michael Burk and spouse Maria of Garland, TX, granddaughter; Tiffany Richelle Shepard Cates and spouse Keith, grandson; Jason Robert Burk an spouse Kimberlea of Wills Point, TX, grandson; David Allen Armstrong and spouse Amber of Knoxville, TN, granddaughter; Hailey Hankins of Houston, TX, grandson; Nicholas Hankins of Houston, TX, granddaughter; Marisa Small and spouse Chris of Durant, OK, grandson; Brett Small of Durant, OK, great-grandson; Joshua Sanchez of Garland, TX, great-granddaughter; Kelsi Rylene Cates of Garland, TX, great-granddaughter; Jordyn Armstrong of Knoxville, TN, and great-grandson; Hayden Douglas Cates of Garland, TX.
A visitation to honor Poppy will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM AT Brown's Funeral Service chapel.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Brown's Funeral Service chapel with Don Fentem officiating.
The burial will take place at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma following the service.
Services are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Services.
