Betty Atwood Boynton, died peacefully Monday, May 30, 2016 at Las Colinas Medical Center, Irving, Texas. She was born February 5, 1929 in Monticello, Mississippi.

She was a beautiful southern lady who eventually migrated with her husband to Durant, OK where they had a wonderful life with family and friends for over 50 years. Mom loved her family and loved the Lord. She attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, Columbia University in NYC and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ole Miss. She was a very accomplished pianist up to the day she died. She was the organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Durant for over twenty years.

Mom was also a former teacher where, while teaching in Houston, she met the eventual love of her life Dr. Edwin C. Boynton who preceded her in death in 2012. They had lived, worked and raised a family in Durant and their home was their family refuge for kids and grandkids for many years. They were very active socially in Durant and that continued later with the Oklahoma Heritage Society.

Surviving family members include son, Paul Boynton and spouse Adrianne, daughter, Beth Boynton Rambo and spouse Kip, four grandchildren, John Boynton, Caroline Boynton, Allyson Rambo Bean (spouse Shaun), Amanda Rambo Schumacher, (spouse Grant) and great grand-child, Aiden Bean.

A family hour will be from 6-7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A church service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Durant with Rev. Jim Shroyer and Rev. Ross Kirven officiating. Pallbearers will be Doug Baker, Grant Schumacher, Darius Maggi and Bob Bruton. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Barker, John Massey and Gordon Wright. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
