Tommy Joe Bishop

Tommy Joe Bishop age 81, of Durant, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Tommy was born on December 14, 1943, in Yuba, Oklahoma to parents Earnest and Joy (Hughes) Bishop. Tommy was raised by Earl Thomison and Juanita after Tommy's father was killed in action during war time. Tommy graduated from Blue High School and later married his sweetheart, Betty Jean Carey on February 10, 1963, and they were blessed and united as one for 58 years until Betty's passing on April 21, 2021. They moved to Dallas and spent 20 years there, until returning to Durant. Tommy and Betty were owners of Discount Carpets until their retirement. Tommy was blessed with his family and friends, who he treasured and adored.

Tommy is preceded in death by his mother Joy Thomison; fathers Earnest Bishop and Earl Thomison and sister Linda Crawford.

Tommy is survived by his son Danny Bishop (LeAnn); daughter Karen Bishop (Gwenn); granddaughters Amy Bishop and Ashley Carlile (James); grandson T.J. Bishop (Alicia); great grandsons LeLand Bishop, Breck Bishop, and Randell Carlile; great granddaughters Ella Bishop and Dylan Bishop and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Brown's Durant Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. John Heath and Bro. Jay Perry will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Durant with Eric Crawford, James Carlile, Willie Francis, Justin Urban, LeLand Bishop, and John Carey serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
