September 14, 1939 ~ February 5, 2022

Doris Lee Smithson of Colbert, Oklahoma was born September 14, 1939 and passed peacefully February 6, 2022.

Doris was the loving wife to Gene T. Smithson, sister to Randy, JR, and Peggy Krumm. She was a fierce fighter for and biological mother to, Tammy Talley, Sheri Pena and Nancy Smithson, grandmother to John Patrick Enouf, Justin Huckaby, Victoria Vicuna, Arelia Alejos and Jack and Elias Smithson. She was great-grandmother to Jericho Barrera. Watching her face light up when she held him or one of her adopted great-grandchildren was a profound sort of reassurance that life was good and good would continue. She served as a mother figure to many, many more, providing unconditional love and unshakable support for those of us who desperately needed her in our lives.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents August and Dorothy Krumm and her beloved daughter Tammy. She is survived by a diverse community of family and friends who, to a person will miss her kindness, her gentleness and her bottomless supply of love.

Doris was a quilter, a gardener, and a steadfast member of the First Baptist Church of Colbert. But her greatest joy and gift was spending time in conversation. Doris never met a stranger who stayed a stranger. It is said that she would enter a doctor's office full of strangers and leave knowing the family history of ever person there, patients and staff alike. Many of us will have fond memories of being on the phone with Doris talking for hours, listening to all the family news until our actual ears were warm from holding the phone close for so long.

We will miss those long conversations until we meet again.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

A Funeral Service for Doris Smithson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 11, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Colbert with Rev. Steve Alexander officiating, Burial will follow in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert. The register book may be signed and condolences sent to the family online @ cunninghamfuneralhomesok.com Arrangements are entrusted to Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, Oklahoma.
